OUTBOARD FLAP - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. There are two tasks in this procedure. There is one task for the removal and one task for the installation of an outboard flap.
(1)
The outboard flap removal procedure has these parts:
(a)
The removal of the outboard flap track fairing
(b)
The removal of the outboard foreflap
(c)
The installation of the support equipment
(d)
The removal of the outboard flap.
(2)
The outboard flap installation procedure has these parts:
(a)
A check of the parts for worn areas
(b)
The installation of the outboard flap
(c)
The installation of the outboard foreflap
(d)
The adjustment of the outboard flaps.
B.
The outboard flap has three parts, the foreflap, midflap and aftflap. The outboard flap cannot be removed from the airplane as an assembly. To remove the outboard flap, you must disconnect the foreflap from the midflap. The midflap and the aftflap can be removed from the airplane as an assembly. For procedures to remove and install the aftflap only, refer to (AMM 27-51-06/401). You must be careful when you move the flap sections, they are easily damaged.
C.
It is important, to save maintenance time, to measure the thickness of the shims that are removed from the midflap. When a replacement midflap is installed, you must examine the shim thickness, to make sure it did not change. If the shim thickness changes, the droop and symmetry will change. The adjustment procedure has steps to correct the thickness of the shims.
D.
A piece of all three outboard flap parts have an abrasion resistant teflon layer for protection. If a repair to the teflon layer is necessary, see 51-24-04, Abrasion Resistant Teflon Finish System.
