CAUTION:_______DO NOT MOVE THE FLAPS AFTER YOU INSTALL ONE FLAP LOCK. IF YOU CANNOT INSTALL THE SECOND LOCK, REMOVE THE FIRST LOCK. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAP DRIVE MECHANISM.

Install a lock on each flap carriage of the flaps in the flap set (inboard or outboard) where the torque tube is to be removed.
(a)
Adjust the tool to the specified length.
(b)
Loosen the roller lock screws until the roller hook openings are clear.
(c)
Attach a safety cable to the airplane structure.
(d)
Put the hooks on the deadweight rollers of the forward bogie.
(e)
Adjust the roller lock screws to touch the rollers.
(f)
Adjust the flap position or the tool length to make sure you can put the pin thru the tool into the failsafe bar.
NOTE: On the inboard flaps, engage the pinball feature and the
____ top of the bushings with a 1.00 inch (2.54 cm) clearance between the tool and the failsafe bar. If the tool is adjusted too much on flap tracks No. 1, 3, 6 or 8, you cannot install the pin.
(g)
Tighten the star knob. Make sure that the serrations engage.

Remove the Flap Torque Tube (Fig. 401)

Remove the torque tube supports.
(a)
Remove the torque tube safety straps, if they are installed.
(b)
Remove the center bearing from the structure, if it is installed.
(c)
Remove each half of the spline coupling cover, if they are installed.
