 CAUTION:_______MONITOR THE FLAP MOVEMENT CAREFULLY. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED BY INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED COMPONENTS.
 DO NOT OPERATE THE FLAP IF THE AFTFLAP IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE MIDFLAP. THE AFTFLAP AND THE MIDFLAP WILL BE DAMAGED. BEFORE YOU OPERATE THE FLAPS, MAKE SURE THAT THE HOOK ON THE GENEVA CAM MECHANISM IS IN THE RELEASED POSITION (DETAIL B, FIG. 502). THE FLAPS WILL BE DAMAGED IF YOU OPERATE THEM WITH THE HOOKS IN THE LATCHED POSITION.
 (2)  
Use electrical power to extend the outboard flaps to a position approximately 12-14 inches (30-36 cm) from the fully retracted position.

 (a)  
Make sure that the flaps are controlled by alternate control.

 (b)  
Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to put the flaps in the specified position.

 (c)  Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to OFF.

 (3)  Make sure that the clearance between the outboard end of the foreflap and the midflap support track is a minimum of 1 inch
 (2.5 cm) (View C, Fig. 501).

_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.

 (2)  Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to put the flap control system in normal control.

 (3) Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.
 NOTE: Control the hydraulic pressure to retract the flaps slowly.

 (4)  Make sure that the distance, called Dimension X, between the universal joint and the ball screw nut (View A, Fig. 501) is 0.45 to
 0.74 inch (1.14 to 1.88 cm).
 K.  If the Ball Screw Nut Clearance is Out of the Tolerance, Adjust the Ball Screws

Release the pressure in hydraulic system No. 4 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 (2)  
Adjust the ball screws:

 (a)  
Disconnect the torque tubes at the transmissions. 1) Remove the three screws which connect the spline coupling

 sleeve to the torque tube. 2) Move the coupling sleeve off the torque tube.

 (b)  
Use the manual drive tool to turn the transmission coupler until the ball screw nut touches the universal joint stop.

 (c)  
Turn the coupler, one full turn plus 24 teeth away from the stops.

 (d)  
Make sure that the clearance between the universal joint and the ball screw nut stops is 1/2 turn (0.59 inch (1.50 cm)).

 (e)  
Install the torque tubes: 1) Align the splines of the coupling sleeves. 2) Move the coupling sleeve on the torque tube. 3) Install the three screws which connect the sleeve to the


 torque tube.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL LOCKWIRE ON THE COUPLING
_______ SCREWS. IF THE COUPLING SCREWS COME OFF, THE TORQUE TUBE COUPLING WILL DISCONNECT AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE.
