(6) If you will remove the forward bogies from the flap carriages, do the following:
NOTE: Separation of the forward bogie from the flap track carriage
____ is not required for flap removal because the inboard flap track geometry allows the carriage and bogie to be removed as an assembly. Bogie removal is not recommended because of inherent danger to personnel.
(a)
Remove the cotter pins, nuts and washers from the support pins that attach the forward bogies to the carriages at both the left and right carriage locations.
(b)
Manually move the flap to remove the flap weight from the forward bogies until all rollers on the forward bogies may be freely rotated.

(c)
Remove the support pins and washers and measure and record the thickness of the washers as they are removed.
(d)
Remove the bushings from the bolt holes in the bogies.

(7) Move the flap assembly (1) aft. Permit the bogies to move from the flap tracks if they are attached to the flap carriages.
NOTE: Make sure that the flap is held correctly when it is
____ removed. The flap weighs approximately 2000 pounds (900 kg).

Remove the tools from the midflap and aftflap.

If a replacement flap or midflap will be installed, do these steps:

From the top surface of the midflap, remove access panels 577 ET and 577 BT (on the left side) or 677 ET and 677 BT (on the right side).

Remove the bolts (23), washers (24 and 27), and nuts (28) which attach the support fitting (25) for the main carriage bearing. Remove the support fitting.

Measure the thickness of the shim pack (26) between the support fitting for the main carriage and the midflap frame.

Attach a label to the midflap with the thickness of the shim pack.

Use the bolts, washers, nuts, and shims to install the support fitting.
NOTE: Install the shims below the nut.
