OUTBOARD AFTFLAP - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. There are two tasks in this procedure. There is one task for the removal and one task for the installation of the outboard aftflap.
(1)
The removal procedure has these parts:
(a)
The extension of the flaps
(b)
The installation of support equipment
(c)
The removal of the aftflap.
(2)
The installation procedure has these parts:
(a)
An examination of the parts which attach the aftflap for worn areas
(b)
The installation of the support equipment
(c)
The installation of the aftflap
(d)
The removal of the support equipment
(e)
An adjustment of the aftflap
(f)
The lubrication of the aftflap.
B.
You can remove and install an outboard aftflap, together with the midflap, or independently of the midflap.
C.
Some of the aftflap is finished with an abrasion-resistant teflon layer. If repair of the teflon layer is necessary, see Abrasion Resistant Teflon Finish - Cleaning/Painting, 51-24-04.

Prepare to Remove the Outboard Aftflap

(1) Pressurize hydraulic system No. 4 (Ref 29-11-00/201).

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.

Put the flap control lever in the 30-unit detent to extend the flaps.

Release the pressure in hydraulic system No. 4 (Ref 29-11-00/201).

Remove the Outboard Aftflap

Install the support equipment (Fig. 401):
(a)
Remove the screws from the strongback attach points (Fig. 401).
(b)
Install the two strongback parts on the aftflap.
