Examine the center sleeve bearings:

 (a)  
Measure the radial depth of the worn area at the center sleeve bearing.


 NOTE: The torque tube can be worn to 0.040 inch (1.02 mm)
____ maximum radial depth on the phenolic sleeve.
 (b)  Replace the torque tube if it is not in the limits.

Examine the air sealer on the flap torque tube.

 (a)  
Examine the seal assembly for cracks or deterioration.

 (b)  
Examine the seal assembly for worn areas. 1) The inner diameter of a carbon seal must not be more than


 2.02 inches (5.13 cm). 2) The worn area on a carbon seal must not be more than
 0.02 inch (0.5 mm) from the seal retainer.
 (c)  Replace the seal assembly if it is necessary
 (AMM 27-51-20/401).

 (4)  
AIRPLANES WITH RIVETS AT TORQUE TUBE END FITTINGS;
 Examine the torque tube for loose rivets:


 (a)  
Make sure there is no movement between the end fitting and the tube.

 (b)  
If there is movement between the end fitting and the tube do one of these procedures: 1) Replace any torque tube which shows movement between the


 end fitting and the torque tube (AMM 27-51-20/401).
 2) Repair any torque tube which shows movements between the
 end fitting and the torque tube (AMM 27-51-20/801).

 E. Put the Airplane Back To Its Usual Condition

 (1)  
Pressurize hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 (2)
Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

Release the pressure in hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4
 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 FLAP TORQUE TUBE - REPAIRS

 1.  General
_______
 A.  There are three tasks in this procedure. There is one task for the repair of a flap torque tube. There is one task to make a splice in a flap torque tube. There is also a task to install a flap torque tube coupling.
 B.  AIRPLANES WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC FORMING (EMF) END FITTINGS; No play is permitted on EMF end fittings. If the end fittings do become loose, replace the torque tube (AMM 27-51-20/401).
