 (a)  Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00/201).

 WARNING: PRIOR TO OPERATING TRAILING EDGE FLAPS, CHECK THAT
_______ PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF SURFACES. LEADING EDGE FLAPS WILL AUTOMATICALLY EXTEND AS THE TRAILING EDGE FLAPS EXTEND IF THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS PRESSURIZED.
 (b)  Press ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to the ALTN position.
 CAUTION: TO AVOID OVERHEATING ELECTRIC MOTORS, RESTRICT OPERATION
_______ OF INBOARD OR OUTBOARD FLAPS TO ONE FULL EXTEND AND RETRACT CYCLE IN A 25-MINUTE PERIOD.
 Two of the three flap control unit inputs are from the relays R7774, ALT FLAP INBD TE, and R7775, ALT FLAP 2 OTBD. Circuit breakers TE FLAP ELEC CONT OTBD and TE FLAP ELEC CONT INBD supply power to these relays. If these two circuit breakers are pulled, the flaps will remain in the primary mode. If only one of the circuit breakers are pulled, the flaps will transition into the alternate mode. A FLAPS CONTROL EICAS caution message will be displayed when the flap system is in the alternate mode.
 (c)  
Extend flaps by positioning ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to EXT.

 (d)  
Retract flaps by positioning ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to RET.

 (e)  
Position ALTN FLAPS EXT/RET switch to OFF and press the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to the off position.

 (5)  
For convenience, a table listing linear ball screw positions is provided (Fig. 6). The dimensions shown are for reference only. They should not be used for flap adjustment.

 1. General

 A. There are 11 tasks in this procedure. The procedure has these tasks:
 (1)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Extension

 (2)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Retraction

 (3)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Extension with Hydraulic Power

 (4)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Retraction with Hydraulic Power

 (5)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Extension with Electrical Power

 (6)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Retraction with Electrical Power

 (7)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Deactivation

 (8)  
The Trailing Edge Flaps Activation

 (9)  
The Flap Track Fairing Removal

 (10)
 The Flap Lever Lock Removal

 (11)
 The Flap Lever Lock Installation.

 (12)
 When you cannot extend the trailing edge flaps because of a failure of a transmission or other flap drive component, you must remove the flap track fairings to get access to the failed component. The removal of a flap track fairing has these parts:

 (a)  
The removal of the access doors

 (b)  
The removal of the fixed fairing

 (c)  
The removal of the movable fairing.

 2. Trailing Edge Flaps Extension

 A. General
 (1)  
You can extend the trailing edge flaps with hydraulic power or with electrical power. Use hydraulic power to extend the flaps if it is necessary to extend and retract the flaps more than one time in 25 minutes. You can use electrical power to extend the flaps if it is not necessary extend and retract the flaps more than one time in 25 minutes.
