Adjust the flap ball screws if dimension Y is not equal on the two flap ball screws:

 (a)  
Push the ALTN ARM switch to put the flap drive system in alternate control.

 (b)  
Manually turn the torque tubes and the power package, until the ball screw nuts touch the flap ball screw downstops.

 WARNING: PREVENT FLAP MOVEMENT BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE FLAP
_______ TORQUE TUBES. THE FLAPS CAN MOVE FAST TO THE DOWNSTOPS AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (c)  
Make sure that the flaps do not move.

 (d)  
Disconnect the flap torque tubes at the transmissions. 1) Remove three screws which attach the coupling sleeve to the

 torque tube. 2) Move the coupling sleeve near the gearbox.

 (e)  
Let the inboard flaps extend until the two ball screw nuts touch the downstops.

 (f)  
Install the flap torque tubes. 1) Move the coupling sleeve along the flap torque tube. 2) Install the three screws that attach the coupling sleeve to


 the flap torque tube.
 NOTE: Do not install the lockwire on the bolts at this
____
 time.

 G. Do a Check of the Inboard Flaps at the Upstop

 CAUTION:_______MONITOR THE FLAPS CAREFULLY WHILE THEY RETRACT. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED BECAUSE OF INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED COMPONENTS.
 (1)  
Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to put the inboard flaps in the 5-unit position.

 (2)  
When the EICAS shows that the flaps are in the 5-unit position, turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to OFF.

 (3)  
Install the aft roller supports (Ref 27-51-39/401).

 (4)  
Put the flap control lever in the 5-unit detent.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS. THE LE AND TE FLAPS WILL MOVE TO AGREE WITH THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER POSITION WHEN THE ALTERNATE CONTROL IS DISARMED.
 (5)  Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to put the flap control system in normal control.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
 (7) Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.
 NOTE: Control the hydraulic pressure to retract the flaps slowly.
