Prepare to Adjust the Outboard Flaps


 S 865-001
 WARNING: OPEN THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS TO PREVENT RETRACTION OF THE
_______ SPOILERS. THE SPOILERS WILL RETRACT AUTOMATICALLY IF YOU USE THE SPEED BRAKE LEVER TO LIFT THE SPOILERS AND IF HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS NO.1 AND 4 ARE NOT PRESSURIZED. INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR IF THE SPOILERS RETRACT.
 (1)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:

 (a)  
P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
 1) 7G6, SPEED BRAKE AUTO CONTROL

 

 S 865-002
 (2)  
Pressurize hydraulic systems No. 2 and 3 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 S 865-003

 (3)  
Put the speed brake control lever in the UP detent to lift spoilers No. 1-4 and 9-12 above the outboard flap.

 (4)  
Install the spoiler actuator locking tools or move the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER switches to SHUTOFF to prevent retraction of the spoilers.

 (5)  
Release the pressure in hydraulic systems No. 2 and 3
 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 (6)  
Remove the flap track fairing access panels as necessary:


 -567BB, 567CB, 567DB and 567EB (Track No. 1)
 -565BB, 565CB, 565DB and 565EB (Track No. 2)
 -665BB, 665CB, 665DB and 665EB (Track No. 3)
 -667BB, 667CB, 667DB and 667EB (Track No. 4).

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE AFTFLAP IS LATCHED TO THE MIDFLAP WHEN YOU

 OPERATE THE FLAPS. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED.

 (7)  
If you will do the outboard flap adjustment after you install a midflap:

 (a)  
Make sure the aft roller supports are not installed

 (b)  
Make sure the aftflap mechanisms are installed

 (c)  
Make sure the two geneva cams are attached to the carriages.

 G. Adjust the Outboard Flaps at the Ball Screw Downstop
 S 865-008
 (1)  
Measure the distance, called Dimension Y, between the ballscrew nut and the ballscrew downstop (Detail A, Fig. 501).

 (2)  
Adjust the flap ball screws if Dimension Y is not equal on the two flap ball screws.

 (3)  
Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 S 835-011

 (4)  
Adjust the ball screws:

 (a)  
Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to put the flap drive system in alternate control.

 (b)  
Manually turn the torque tubes, with the flap power package, until one ball screw nut touches the downstop.


 WARNING: PREVENT FLAP MOVEMENT BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE FLAP
_______ TORQUE TUBES. THE FLAPS CAN MOVE QUICKLY TO THE DOWNSTOPS. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (c)  
Make sure that the flap movement is prevented.

 (d)  
Disconnect the applicable torque tubes at the angle gearbox: 1) Remove three screws which attach the spline coupling sleeve

 to the torque tube spline. 2) Move the coupling sleeve near the gearbox.

 (e)  
Let the outboard flaps extend until the two ball screw nuts touch the downstops.

 (f)  
Install the flap torque tubes: 1) Move the coupling sleeve along the flap torque tube. 2) Install the three screws that attach the coupling sleeve to


 the flap torque tube.
 NOTE: Do not install the lockwire on the bolts at this
____
 time.
