If the dimension is out of the tolerance:


 1)  Move the washers from one side of the bearing to the other to get the necessary dimension.
 NOTE: There must be a minimum of one washer on each side

 (8)  
Do a check of the clearance at the foreflap support tube.

 (a)  
Move the flaps to put the foreflap support tube and the hook on the sequence carriage in their position (section A-A, Fig. 401). 1) Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to put the flaps in


 alternate control. 2) Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to put the flaps in the
 specified position. 3) Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to OFF. 4) Make sure that the clearance between the foreflap support
 tube and the sequence carriage hook is 0.80-0.90 inch (2.0-2.3 cm).

 (9)  
Do a check of the clearance between the top of the foreflap support tube and the hook.

 (a)  
Make sure the clearance between the top of the foreflap support tube and the hook is 0.10 to 0.20 inch (0.25-0.51 cm).

 (b)  
If the clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the clearance: 1) Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to retract the flaps to permit access to the hook. 2) Put a wrench in the access holes in the bottom of the flap track and engage the nut. 3) Remove the two bolts which attach the hook to the flap


 track. 4) Remove the hook and shims. 5) Add or remove shims to get the necessary clearance. 6) Apply a layer of primer to all of the bare surfaces on the
 shims.
 7) Install the shims and hook.

 NOTE:____The primer on the shims can be wet or dry. Install the shims with the concave surface against the flap track. The maximum shim thickness is 0.125 inch
 (0.318 cm).
 a) Install the washers below the bolt heads. b) Apply sealant to the threads, the shank and the bottom of the bolt heads. c) Tighten the bolts to 450-550 pound-inches (51-62 N-m).
 NOTE: If the bolt does not go through the nut more
____ than one thread, install a longer bolt.
 d)  Apply sealant to the surfaces of the track, shims, bolt heads and washers.

 e)  Do the steps again to do a check of the clearance between the hook and the foreflap support tool.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
 (10) Move the flap control lever to agree with the flap position.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS. THE LE AND TE FLAPS WILL MOVE TO AGREE WITH THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER POSITION WHEN YOU DISARM THE ALTERNATE CONTROL.
 (11)
 Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to disarm alternate control.

 Pressurize hydraulic system No. 4 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 (13)
 Do a check of the clearance to the midflap support track.

 (a)  
Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to fully retract the outboard flaps.

 (b)  
Extend the outboard flaps to a position approximately 12 to 14 inches (30 to 36 cm) from the full up position.

 (c)  
Release the pressure in hydraulic system No. 4 (Ref
 29-11-00/201).


 (d)  
Make sure that the clearance between the outboard end of the foreflap and midflap support track is in the limits of Detail D, Fig. 401. 1) If adjustment is necessary, adjust the shim thickness
