 FLAP TORQUE TUBE - INSPECTION/CHECK

 1.  General
_______
 A.  There is one task in this procedure to do an inspection of the flap torque tubes.
 B.  AIRPLANES WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC FORMING (EMF) END FITTINGS; No play is permitted on EMF end fittings. If the end fittings do become loose, replace the torque tube (AMM 27-51-20/401).
 (1)
The inspection of the flap torque tubes has these parts:

 (a)
The extension of the flaps

 (b)
The installation of the landing gear door locks

 (c)
An inspection of the backlash at the couplers

 (d)
A measurement of the center bearing sleeves

 (e)
A visual check of the air sealer

 (f)
The retraction of the flaps

 (g)
The removal of the landing gear door locks.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
 (2)  
Put the flap control lever in the 30-unit detent to extend the flaps.

Release the pressure in hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4
 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

Make sure that the landing gear ground locks are installed.

 WARNING: CAREFULLY DO THE SPECIFIED TASK TO INSTALL THE DOOR LOCKS ON
_______ THE LANDING GEAR DOORS. THE DOORS CAN CLOSE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE DOOR LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (5)  
Install the door locks on the doors for the body landing gear (AMM 32-00-30/201).

Torque Tube Inspection


 S 226-007
 (1)  
Examine the flap torque tube splined couplers (Fig. 601):

 (a)  
Remove the screws which attach the spline coupling sleeve to the torque tube on the opposite end of the torque tube.

 (b)  
Move the coupling sleeve off the torque tube spline to disconnect the torque tube.

 (c)  
Measure the linear and the angular backlash.


 NOTE: Move the torque tube axially, the full length of the
____ sleeve to find the point of maximum backlash.
 (d)  Replace the gearbox if the backlash is not in the tolerance (AMM 27-51-20/401).
