Do these steps to attach the spreader bar and the load positioner to the strongbacks (Fig. 402).

 (a)  
Follow the instructions on the instruction plate on the spreader bar to put the adjust-a-leg sling into the correct position (Fig. 402).

 (b)  
Move the counter weight to make the spreader bar level.

 (c)  
Attach the load positioner and the spreader bar to the strongbacks.

Install the outboard flap (Fig. 401).

 (a)  
Lift the flaps into their position. 1) Put the aft bogies on the flap tracks and move them

 forward. 2) Install the two aft bogies at the same time.

 (b)  
Install the forward bogie on each carriage (Fig. 401). 1) Align the forward bogie with the carriage. 2) Apply a thin layer of grease to four bushings (15 and 16). 3) Install the bushings in the forward bogie. 4) On each side of the forward bogie, align the washers (12)


 with the bolt holes.
 NOTE: Make sure that the thickness of the washers is the
____ same as was written down during the flap removal. If the thickness of the washers cannot be found, install washers to get a clearance as shown in section A-A, Fig. 401. The usual washer configuration is one 0.020 inch (0.051 cm) thick washer and four 0.032 inch (0.081 cm) thick washers.
 5)  Apply a layer of MIL-C-11796, class 3, corrosion preventive compound to the outer side of the shank, bottom of the head, and the radius of the support pin.
 6)  Manually put the flaps in their position so that the support pin can be installed freely. Install the support pin.
 7) Install the washer (13) and nut (14).
 8) Tighten the nut (14) to 290-410 pound-inches (33-46 N-m).
 9) Install the cotter pin.

 NOTE: The cotter pin must not extend around the end of the
____ bolt. If the cotter pin can not be installed, remove a 0.020 inch (0.051 cm) thick washer from the support pin. If 50 percent of the cotter pin does not touch the nut, add a washer below the nut.
 (c)  Slowly move the flap on the tracks. Make sure that the bogie rollers move freely on the flap tracks. 1) If the rollers do not move freely, adjust the forward bogie
 washers.

 (d)  Attach the flap to the transmission ball screw nuts.
 1)  Set each ball screw nut to the dimension measured during the flap removal.
 NOTE: The ball screw nut ball returns must be down.
____ The position of the ball screw nut for the two flap tracks must be equal (Fig. 401).
 2)  Move the flaps to align the gimbal with the ball screw nut.
 NOTE: To keep the rigging position, do not change the
____ position of the ball screw nut.
 3) Apply a layer of MIL-C-11796, class 3, corrosion preventive compound to the bolts and the bolt holes. 4) At each ball screw nut, install the two gimbal caps (45) with the keys engaged in the slots.
 NOTE: The bushing flange must point in, against the ball
____
 screw nut.

 5) Put the washers (50) on the bolts (51).
 6) Install the four bolts.
 7) Tighten the bolts to 225-275 pound-inches (25.4-31.1 N-m)

 on the outboard track. 8) Tighten the bolts to 450-550 pound-inches on the inboard track.

Remove the ball and screw support tool.

Remove the load positioner, spreader bar, strongback and turnbuckle from the flap assembly.
