 (b)  Install the lip seal in the lip seal housing
 (Fig. 401, Detail D).

Install the lip seal housing into the lower bearing housing of the stabilizer trim drive mechanism:

 (a)  
Install a new O-ring in the circumferential groove on the outside of the lip seal housing.

 (b)  
Make sure the outside of the lip seal housing and the inside of the lower bearing housing are clean.

 (c)  
Apply a thin layer of grease (BMS 3-33 or MIL-G-23827) to the outside of the lip seal housing.


 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE LIP SEAL AND THE O-RING HAVE SUFFICIENT
_______ CLEARANCE WHEN YOU INSTALL THE LIP SEAL HOUSING. DAMAGE TO THE LIP SEAL CAN CAUSE A HYDRAULIC LEAK IN THE SYSTEM.
 (d)  Install the lip seal housing into the lower bearing housing of the stabilizer trim drive mechanism: 1) Align the locating pin with the mating hole. 2) Put the lip seal housing into the lower bearing housing of
 the stabilizer trim drive mechanism. 3) Push the lip seal housing into its position tightly. 4) Install three screws and washers.

Install the safety rod:

 (a)  
Apply a thin layer of grease (BMS 3-33 or MIL-G-23827) to the safety rod.

 (b)  Move the safety rod into its position: 1) Put a length of the wire down through the center of the ball screw.
 (c) (d) (e) (f) (g) (h)  2) Attach the wire to the lanyard of the safety rod adapter. 3) Lift the safety rod through the safety rod removal door to its position. 4) Attach the lanyard to the structure to hold the safety rod.Install the safety shaft through the lower gimbal retaining pins and the safety sleeve.Install the safety shaft retaining bolt, washers and nut in each lower gimbal retaining pin. 1) Tighten the nuts.Remove the safety rod adapter.Adjust the safety rod until you engage the internal spline in the lower safety sleeve.Install the safety rod nut. 1) Tighten the nut to 70-100 pound-inches (7.9-11.3 newton-meters). 2) Loosen the nut to align the lockbolt holes.Install the lockbolt of the safety rod nut and the nut. 1) Tighten the nut.

 (4)  Fill the primary brake housing with hydraulic fluid. (a) Remove the oil filler plug. (b) Fill the primary brake housing to the level of the filler port with hydraulic fluid. (c) Install the oil filler plug. 1) Tighten the oil filler plug. 2) Install a lockwire on the oil filler plug.
