 L. Do a check of the droop and symmetry of the outboard flaps:
 NOTE: Make sure the ball screw nuts are synchronized before you adjust
____ the droop and symmetry. Make sure that dimension X is 0.45 to
 0.74 inch (1.14 to 1.88 cm) for both of the ball screws. If not, see "Adjust the ball screws" and (Fig. 501, View A).

Pressurize hydraulic systems No. 2 and 3 (AMM 29-11-00/201).

Put the speed brake lever in the DOWN position to lower spoilers No. 1-4 and 9-12.

 CAUTION:_______MONITOR THE FLAP MOVEMENT CAREFULLY. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED BY INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED COMPONENTS.
 BEFORE YOU OPERATE THE FLAPS, MAKE SURE THAT THE HOOK ON THE GENEVA CAM MECHANISM IS IN THE RELEASED POSITION (DETAIL B, FIG. 502). THE FLAPS WILL BE DAMAGED IF YOU OPERATE THEM WITH THE HOOKS IN THE LATCHED POSITION.
 (3)  Make sure the flaps and moveable flap track fairings are in the up position.
 NOTE: Make sure they were raised with hydraulic power.

Measure the droop of each outboard midflap (FIG. 503):


 NOTE: The droop is the vertical dimension between the midflap and
____ the fixed trailing edge. Measure the droop from the centerline of the rear spar of the midflap to the trailing edge wedge lower surface.
 (a)  
The midflap must be between 0.05 to 0.45 inch (0.13 to 1.14 cm) below the trailing edge wedge.

 (b)  
The difference in the droop between the left flap and the right flap must not be more than 0.06 inch (0.15 cm).


 NOTE: You must keep this symmetry after the flaps, flap track
____ fairings and outboard spoilers are fully rigged.

 (c)  If the dimensions you measured are not as given above, do the steps that follow:
 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE
_______ LEADING EDGE AND TRAILING EDGE FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PRESSURIZED THE FLAPS WILL MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
 1)  Pressurize hydraulic system No. 4. "Hydraulic System Pressurization" (AMM 29-11-00/201).
 2)  Put the flap control lever in the 30-unit detent to extend the outboard flaps.
 3)  Do this task to depressurize hydraulic system No. 4. "Hydraulic System Depressurization" (AMM 29-11-00/201).
 4)  Remove the access panels 587DT and 587HT (on the left wing) or 687DT and 687HT (on the right wing) above the aft end of each main carriage spindle (AMM 06-09-08/201).
 5)  If additional access is required, remove the outboard flap track fairing (AMM 27-51-31/401).
 6)  Remove the bolts, washers, nuts, and retainers that hold the carriage support bearings to the links (View E, Fig. 501).
 7)  Change the thickness of the shims.
 NOTE: The maximum shim thickness is 0.50 inch (1.3 cm)
____ The two shims from the outboard carriage bearing support must be the same thickness as the two shims for the inboard carriage bearing support.
 8)  Apply BMS 5-95 sealant to the bolts.
 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL TO USE THE CORRECT BOLTS AND WASHERS IN
