 OF THE FLAP TO PREVENT FLAP DAMAGE.
 THE PUSHRODS (FORWARD RODS) MUST BE KEPT AT THE LENGTH
 SHOWN IN FIG. 402 TO PREVENT ROD LOADS THAT ARE TOO HIGH.
 THE PUSHRODS CAN BE DIFFERENT FROM THE SPECIFIED LENGTH
 ONLY WHEN THE ACTUATOR RODS CANNOT BE ADJUSTED TO THE 6.70
 TO 6.80 INCH (17.0 TO 17.3 CM) DIMENSION.  IF YOU CHANGE
 THE LENGTH OF THE PUSHRODS, IT MUST BE THE SAME ON THE TWO

 PUSHRODS.
 (f)  
Align the actuator rods (12) with the aftflap fittings.

 (g)  
Adjust the rod ends.

 (h)  
Make sure that you can see the rod ends threads through the inspection hole.

 (i)  
Tighten the checknuts on the rod ends.

 (j)  
Install the lockwire on the checknuts.

 CAUTION: BEFORE THE ACTUATOR RODS ARE CONNECTED, MAKE SURE THAT THE HOOK
_______ ON THE GENEVA CAM MECHANISM IS IN THE RELEASED POSITION AS SHOWN ON FIG. 402. THE FLAPS WILL BE DAMAGED IF THEY ARE MOVED WITH THE HOOKS IN THE LATCHED POSITION.
 (6)  
Install the rod ends on the aftflap with a bolt (14), bushing (8), washers (9, 11 and 13), and a nut (10).

 (a)  
Tighten the nut to 120 pound-inches (14 N-m). Continue to tighten the nut until the cotter pin hole is aligned.


 NOTE: Install the washer between the clamp-up bushing and the
____ bearing to make sure the flanged bushing will not move.
 (b)  Install the cotter pin.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
 (7)  Move the flap control lever to the position of the flaps.

 WARNING: THE TRAILING EDGE AND THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS WILL MOVE TO AGREE
_______ WITH THE CONTROL LEVER POSITION WHEN THE ALTERNATE CONTROL IS DISARMED. MAKE SURE THAT ALL PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE OUT OF THE PATH OF THE FLAPS.
 (8)
Push the ALTN FLAPS ARM switch to disarm the alternate control.

 I.
Adjust the Aftflap

 (1)  
Pressurize hydraulic system No. 4 (Ref 29-11-00/201).

Move the flaps slowly.


 NOTE: Make sure the flaps move freely.

Retract the flaps.

Make sure that the clearance between the midflap trailing edge and the top surface of the aftflap is in the tolerance of Detail A, Fig. 404.

 (a)  
Add or remove shims at the bottom forward end of the support strut to adjust the clearance: 1) Loosen the nut on the bolt in the top aft end of the


 support strut. 2) Remove the bolt from the bottom forward end of the support
 strut. 3) Add or remove shims if it is necessary. 4) Apply a layer of wet primer on the shims. 5) Install the shims, filler, concave and convex washers, and
 the bolt. 6) Tighten the bolt. 7) Tighten the nut on the bolt in the top aft end of the
 support strut.
 (b)  
After the adjustment, make sure that the screws will not touch the aftflap in the fully retracted position.

Put the Airplane Back to its Usual Condition.

 (1)
Move the flaps slowly. Make sure that the flaps move smoothly.

 (2)  
Lubricate the aftflap (Ref 12-21-20/301).
