 CAUTION:_______MONITOR THE FLAP MOVEMENT CAREFULLY. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED BY INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED COMPONENTS.
 DO NOT OPERATE THE FLAP IF THE AFTFLAP IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE MIDFLAP. THE AFTFLAP AND THE MIDFLAP WILL BE DAMAGED. BEFORE YOU OPERATE THE FLAPS, MAKE SURE THAT THE HOOK ON THE GENEVA CAM MECHANISM IS IN THE RELEASED POSITION (DETAIL B, FIG. 502). THE FLAPS WILL BE DAMAGED IF YOU OPERATE THEM WITH THE HOOKS IN THE LATCHED POSITION.
 (2)  
Move the flaps to get the foreflap support tube and the hook on the sequence carriage (View D-D, Fig. 501).

 (a)  
Make sure that the flaps are controlled by alternate control.

 (b)  
Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to put the flaps in the specified position.

 (c)  
Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to OFF.

 (3)  
Make sure that the clearance between the tube and the hook is 0.10-0.20 inch (0.25-0.51 cm) (View D-D, Fig. 501).

If the clearance is out of the tolerance, adjust the clearance:

 (a)  
Turn the ALTN FLAPS switch to retract the flaps to permit access to the hook.

 (b)  
Remove the two bolts which attach the hook to the flap track.

 1)  Put a wrench through the access holes in the bottom of the flap track and turn the nuts.

 (c)  
Remove the hook and the shims.

 (d)  
Add or remove shim laminations to get the necessary clearance.


 NOTE: The maximum permitted shim thickness is 0.125 inch
____ (0.318 cm).
 (e)  
Apply a layer of primer on all bare surfaces on the shims.

 (f)  
Install the shims and the hook with the shim concave surface against the flap track.


 NOTE: The primer on the shims can be wet or dry.

 (g)  
Install the washers below the bolt heads.

 (h)  
Apply sealant to the threads, the shank and the bottom of the bolt heads.

 (i)  
Install the bolts.

 (j)  Tighten the bolts, from the head end, to 450-550 pound-inches (51-62 N-m).
 NOTE: If the bolt does not extend through the nut by one
____ thread or more, install a longer bolt.
 (k)  Apply sealant to the surfaces of the track, hook shims, and around the washers, and the bolt heads.

 (5)  
Measure the clearance again between the hook and the top of the foreflap support tube.
