A. This procedure has two tasks. They are the removal and the installation of the translating sleeve.

C. Procedure

WARNING: DO THE DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE TO PREVENT THE OPERATION OF THE
_______ THRUST REVERSER. THE ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1)
Do the deactivation procedure for the thrust reverser for ground maintenance (AMM 78-31-00/201).
(2)
Remove the fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/401).

NOTE: If you remove the cowl panel, you can access the necessary

components easily.

(3) Unlock the sync lock:
(a)
Move the No. 1(2) reverse thrust lever to the extended
position.
(b)
Move the No. 1(2) reverse thrust lever to the retracted
position.
NOTE: You must do the next step in less than 90 seconds
____ after you move the reverse thrust lever to the retract position. If you do not, the sync lock will lock and prevent the movement of the sleeve.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION BAR OR OTHER TOOLS TO MOVE THE UNLOCK
_______ HANDLE. IF YOU USE AN EXTENSION BAR OR OTHER TOOLS, DAMAGE TO THE UNLOCK HANDLE OR ACTUATOR CAN OCCUR.
(4) At the upper (locking) actuator, move the manual unlock handle forward.
NOTE: The sleeve will move approximately 1/2 inch out of the
____ fully retracted position and the T/R UNLOCK indication light will come on.

Remove the sleeve-to-strut fairing (Fig. 401).

Remove the access panels from the sleeve (View B, Fig. 401).

CAUTION: ATTACH THE ACTUATOR ROD ENDS WITH TAPE TO PREVENT ROTATION.
_______ ROTATION CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL FEEDBACK MECHANISM.
(7) Disconnect the actuator rod ends from the sleeve fittings.

WARNING: OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURE TO OPEN THE THRUST
_______ REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OPBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(8) Open the thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).
