PROXIMITY SENSORS - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This section gives the procedure to adjust the proximity sensors. These proximity sensors are:
 (1)  
Auto restow proximity sensor (S831/S832) that activates the auto restow circuit when the thrust reversers move aft uncommanded.

 (2)  
Not stow proximity sensor (S835/S836) which gives a signal to the thrust reverser indication system when the thrust reverser is not stowed.

 (3)  
Deploy proximity sensor (S925/S926) that sends a signal to the Digital Flight Data Recorder when the thrust reveser is fully deployed.

 B.  
Make sure the thrust reverser is deactivated for maintenance before you adjust the sensors (AMM 78-31-00/201).

Adjust the Not-stow/Auto-restow proximity sensors:


 S 825-010-C00
 (1)  PROXIMITY SENSORS WITH THE SPRING LOADED TARGETS;
 Adjust the target clearance (Fig. 501, Fig. 502):

 (a)  For the initial setup, loosen the adjustment nut until you get a distance of 0.06 to 0.10 inch (1.5 to 2.5 mm) from the aft end of the nut to the end of the bolt.

(b)  
Put a ball of the modeling clay between the aft face of the target and the forward face of the fitting.

 (c)  
Do the procedure to power retract the reverser sleeves (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (d)  
Do the procedure to power extend the reverser sleeves (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (e)  
Tighten the adjustment nut until you get a distance of 0.04 to


 0.06 inch (1.0 to 1.5 mm) (between the crushed face of the clay
 and the aft face of the target).
 1) The result is a 0.04 to 0.06 inch (1.0 to 1.5 mm) distance,

 in Section A-A, when you retract the sleeves.
 (f)  Do the procedure to power retract the reverser sleeves (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (2)  PROXIMITY SENSORS WITHOUT SPRING LOADED TARGETS;
 Adjust the target clearance (Fig. 501):

 (a)  
Put a piece of the modeling clay on the target.

 (b)  
Do the procedure to power retract the reverser sleeves (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (c)  
Do the procedure to power extend the reverser sleeves (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (d)  
Examine the thickness of the clay on the target.

 (e)  
If it is necessary, remove or install the 0.010 inch shims to get the correct distance (Fig. 501).
