Make sure that the V-blade and groove surfaces on the extension ring of the fan frame and reverser are fully engaged.

 (f)  
Close all five latches.


 NOTE: Starts at the forward latch and continues to aft.
____ Use a 50 to 55 pounds (22.7 to 25 kg) closing force as measured one inch (25.4 mm) from latch handle end. If it is necessary, use the hex key wrench to turn the adjustment screw, installed in the end of latch hook, to get the correct closing force.
 WARNING: OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURE TO OPEN THE THRUST
_______ REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
 (g)  
Open the thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (h)  
Measure the clay thickness at all compression pads.

 (i)  
Write down each measurement and its location.

 (j)  
Remove all clay.

 (35) Adjust the compression rods as follows (Fig. 404) for these items:
 (a)  The forward compression rod location NAC STA 233.38. 1) Add the left and right clay thicknesses. 2) Subtract two times the necessary distance of 0.03 to 0.06
 inch per side (0.76 to 1.52 mm). 3) The difference is the length that it is necessary to increase the compression rod by. 4) Loosen the jamnut and turn the compression rod pad to make the rod longer.
 NOTE: One full turn have the same value as 0.056 inch

Example: (plus) + Clay thickness left side 0.11 inch Clay thickness right side +0.08 inch ---------- (2.79 mm)(2.03 mm)---------
(minus) - 2 X gap requirement  0.19 inch -0.06 inch ---------- (4.82 mm)(1.52 mm)---------
0.13 inch  (3.30 mm)

 Increase the compression rod length 0.13 inch (3.30 mm).
 5)  Tighten and lockwire the jamnut to the compression rod body, then lockwire the rod pad to the jamnut.
 (b)  The aft compression rod, location NAC STA 246.70. 1) Add the left and right clay thicknesses. 2) Subtract two times the necessary distance of 0.03 to 0.06
 inch per side (0.76 to 1.52 mm). 3) The difference is the length that it is necessary to increase the compression rod by. 4) Loosen the jamnut and turn the compression rod pad to make the rod longer.

 (36) Find the shim as follows (View A, Fig. 402):
 (a)  At each of the forward upper compression pads, NAC STA 209.75, sum the right and left clay thicknesses, subtract two times the required gap ( 2 x 0.03 in { 2 x 0.67 mm }), and divide by two.
