1) Make sure the layers are smooth, free of blisters, and free of contamination.
(e)
Keep the dried plug material in containers to prevent damage and contamination (i.e. solvents/hydrocarbon fluids). 1) Prevent long exposure to sunlight.
(f)
You can apply an BMS 10-102 Type II top layer when the patch is dried. 1) Do the procedure: Apply the BMS 10-102 Type II topcoat of
the insulative system.
I. Use the steps that follow to apply the BMS 10-102, Type II, Grade B topcoat of the insulative coating system:
S 848-027-C00
(1) Prepare the area.
(a)
Sand the patch or repair area with 180 grit abrasive paper until it is smooth.
(b)
Finish with a 240 grit or finer abrasive paper.
(c)
Remove the dust with a soft brush or a clean cheesecloth.
S 848-028-C00
(2) Prepare the BMS 10-102, Type II, Grade B as follows:
(a) Do these steps to mix and thin the BMS 10-102, Type II, Grade
B:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF CATALYST WHEN
_______ YOU MIX THE TOPCOAT. TOO MUCH CATALYST IN THE TOPCOAT MIXTURE CAN COMPROMISE THE FIRE-RESISTANT PROPERTIES OF THE TOPCOAT.
1) The table in Fig. 801 shows the different catalyst concentrations which can be used to cure the topcoat. The table shows also the effects of the different concentrations on handling properties. Use only the catalyst concentrations given in Fig. 801. Do not exceed the maximum catalyst concentration of 0.50 parts-per-hundred for Catalyst A or Catalyst B.
2) Stir the base as necessary to make sure the pigments are fully and equally mixed and the mixture is homogeneous. 3) Add the necessary amount of catalyst, as shown in Fig. 801, and mix fully and equally. Use Catalyst B only for rework.
4) Add the silica fibers to the fully mixed topcoat. The quantity of silica fibers added should be 2.0 to 3.0 percent by weight. Mechanically mix the fibers into the topcoat until the fibers are fully and equally mixed with the other materials.
CAUTION: DO NOT ADD ALIPHATIC NAPTHA TO TOPCOAT THAT WAS MIXED
_______
WITH CATALYST B.

5) Make the sealant thin with the aliphatic naphtha 10 (maximum) percent by volume. Do not add aliphatic naptha to a topcoat that was mixed with Catalyst B.
(b) Use BMS 10-102, Type II, Grade B to apply the molded patch.
1) Apply the BMS 10-102 Type II, Grade B equally to cover the repair plug material and the mating area between the plug and existing insulation.
NOTE: Permit the sealant to dry at ambient temperature.
____ The sealant will stay tacky for 28-36 hours.
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK) IN YOUR MOUTH OR
_______ EYES, OR ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THE MEK. PUT ON A PROTECTIVE SPLASH GOGGLE AND GLOVES WHEN YOU USE THE MEK. KEEP THE MEK AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAMES, AND HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE MEK IS A POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE SOLVENT WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
(c) Clean the brushes with the methyl ethyl ketone or naphtha.
J. Put the Airplane Back to its Usual Condition.
