TORQUE BOX RUB STRIP - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The rub strips are found on the forward edge of the torque box under the aft edge of the fan cowl panels (Fig. 201).
 B.  The rub strips are the interface between the torque box of the fan duct cowl and thrust reverser halves, and the fan cowl panels.
 C.  This procedure gives the steps to remove, and install and adjust the rub strips and shims.
 D.  The installation is done in two steps:
 (1)  
The first is the Temporary Installation which you install the shims and rubstrips and do a check for aerodynamic smoothness.

 (2)  
The second is the Permanent Installation.

 E.  
The level of the rub strips must be adjusted with shims to:

 (1)  
Make sure that the aerodynamic smoothness between the thrust reverser sleeves and the fan cowl panels is in the permitted limits.

 (2)  
Prevent air gaps between the rub strips and the fan cowl panels.

Procedure

 S 012-002-C00
 (1)  
Open the fan cowl panels (AMM 71-11-02/201).

 (2)
Remove the Hi-Loks that attach the rub strips to the torque box.

 (3)  
Remove the rub strips and shims from the torque box.

 (a)  
Write down the position of the rub strips and shims as you remove them.

 (b)  
Keep the shims for the installation procedure.

 E. Temporary Installation of the Rub Strips
 S 862-006-C00
 (1)  If you have the shims from the removal, continue with the step for the permanent installation of the rub strips.
 NOTE: If you have a new thrust reverser installation, continue with
____ the temporary installation of the rub strips.
 S 422-007-C00
 (2)  Use the spray adhesive to temporarily attach the rub strips to the forward edge of the torque box.
 NOTE: The rub strip and the thrust reverser sleeve must have a gap
____ of 0.160 | 0.080 inches (3.92 |2.0 mm) around the full circumference. The gap between the rub strip pieces must be 0.10| 0.05 inches (2.54 |1.27 mm).
