E. Hydraulic Actuator Removal
 S 424-019-C00
 (1)  If you do not remove the upper (locking) actuator,
 do the steps that follow:

 (a)  When the fluid has drained, tighten the flexible line connections at the upper actuator to 255 pound-inches
 (28.9 Nm).
 NOTE: Tighten the hydraulic connections that have been
____ disconnected to 255 pound-inches (28.9 Nm), then loosen and retighten them to 255 pound-inches (28.9 Nm). Fittings with O-rings should not be double-torqued.
 (b)  Loosen and tighten the connections again to
 255 pound-inches (28.9 Nm).

If you do not remove the bottom actuator,
 replace the caps on the bottom actuator.

 (3)  
Do the steps that follow to remove the upper (locking) actuator
 (View A and B, Fig. 401):

 

 (a)  Remove the deploy proximity sensor from the bracket on the upper actuator (AMM 78-34-03/401).
 NOTE: Remove the clamps that attach the wiring of the deploy
____ proximity sensor to the upper actuator. Put the sensor away from the actuator to prevent damage to the wiring.
 (b)  
Disconnect the flexible lines from the upper EXT (extend) port and the upper RET (retract) port on the upper (locking) actuator.

 (c)  
Disconnect the feedback rod from the lever.

 (d)  
Loosen the bolts on the tubing clamps for the tubes that are connected to the actuator because it is necessary to move the tubing to be able to remove the actuator.

 (e)  
Disconnect the hydraulic line from the lower RET (retract) port on the upper (locking) actuator.

 (f)  
Disconnect the flex shaft from the lower EXT (extend) port of the upper (locking) actuator as follows (View B, Fig. 401): 1) Loosen the tube coupling nut at the end of the flex shaft


 tube. 2) Disconnect the nut from the actuator. 3) Move the nut and the tube adapter along the tube to expose
 the flex shaft.
 4) Remove the shaft from the actuator.
 5) Keep the shaft in the tube.

 (g)  Remove the applicable access panel from the sleeve.

(h)  
Remove the bolt, the nut, the washer, and the bushing from the rod end of the actuator (View C, Fig. 401). 1) Disconnect the actuator rod end from the sleeve.

 (i)  
Remove the bolts which attach the retainers to the gimbal ring (View E, Fig. 401). 1) Remove the retainers.

 (j)  
Remove the actuator and the shims (if present) from the
 reverser.


 (k)  
After the actuator is removed, do the steps that follow on a suitable work surface. 1) Remove the sync lock from the actuator (AMM 78-34-10/401). 2) UPPER ACTUATORS WITHOUT A HYDRAULIC FLOW RESTRICTOR;


 Remove the union from the upper EXT (extend) port for use on the replacement actuator.
