Prepare to Clean and Examine the Drag Link.

 WARNING: DO THE DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE TO PREVENT THE OPERATION OF THE
_______ THRUST REVERSER. THE ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  Do the deactivation procedure for the thrust reverser for ground maintenance (AMM 78-31-00/201).

 (2)  Open the fan cowl panels (AMM 71-11-02/201).
 S 026-035-C00 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE A MINIMUM OF 3 EVENLY-SPACED CASCADE
_______ SEGMENTS IN PLACE TO SUPPORT THE AFT CASCADE RING. IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AFT CASCADE RING CAN OCCUR.
 (3)  Remove the cascade segments No. 5, 6, 11, and 12 (AMM 78-31-05/401). NOTE: You can remove other cascade segments as necessary, so

 long as you obey all applicable cautions.

 S 846-017-C00 WARNING: DO NOT CLIMB IN THE FAN DUCT WHEN THE THRUST REVERSER IS IN THE
_______ OPEN POSITION. YOUR WEIGHT CAN CAUSE THE HOLD OPEN ROD FOR THE THRUST REVERSER TO BREAK. INJURY TO YOU AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
 CAUTION: DO NOT PULL ON THE BLOCKER DOOR DRAG LINKS OR USE THE DRAG
_______ LINKS FOR SUPPORT. YOU CAN DAMAGE THE DRAG LINKS.
 (4)  
Get access to the drag links through the area from which you removed the cascade segments.

Remove the drag link from the blocker door (AMM 78-31-07/401). S 026-032-C00

 (6)  
On the end of the drag link that attaches to the blocker door, remove the ball of the spherical bearing from the race.


 NOTE: The spherical bearing consists of a ball and a race.

 (7)  Wash the ball and race with solvent.

(8)  S 216-008-C00Examine the ball and the race of the spherical bearing for pits or scratches. (a) If you find pits or scratches on the ball, install a new ball. (b) If you find pits or scratches on the race, replace the spherical bearing.
 (9)  S 416-030-C00Put the ball of the spherical bearing into the race.

 (10) Examine the drag links for the conditions that follow and make a record of the location and condition found.
 (a)
The nuts on the drag link bolts are loose.

 (b)
The shank length of the drag link bolts is too long.

 (c)
The bushings in the pivot link on the blocker door are worn.

 (d)
The bushings in the anchor fitting are worn.

 (e)
The race of the spherical bearing is loose in the drag link.

 (f)
The drag link and anchor fittings have cracks or other damage.

 Remove the drag links (AMM 78-31-07/401).

 If you must examine the bushings in the pivot link, do these steps:

 (a)
Remove the applicable blocker door (AMM 78-31-06/401).

 (b)
Remove the cover from the back of the blocker door.

 (c)
Examine the bushings in the pivot link.

 (13) Use the wear limit data to find if the wear is more than the design limits (Fig. 601).
 (a)
Replace the worn bushings.

 (b)
Replace the worn balls/bearings.
