LONGITUDINAL BACKLASH BETWEEN BALLSCREW NUT AND BALLSCREW SHOULD NOT EXCEED 0.03 INCH WITH
25 POUNDS APPLIED TO END OF BALLSCREW.
BUSHING ID AFTER PRESS FIT, ESTILMATED.

Procedure


 S 018-021
 WARNING: TIE THE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY UP TO THE CEILING STRUCTURE BEFORE
_______ YOU DISCONNECT THE AFT END FITTING. IF YOU DO NOT, IT WILL FALL AND MAY POSSIBLY CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
 (1)  
Disconnect the aft end fitting universal joint from the airplane structure (AMM 52-31-02/401).

Remove the nut (2), washer (1), and bolt (3) (Fig. 801).

Remove the pivot pin (4) and universal joint (5) from the end of the aft end fitting (6).


 NOTE: If the shear lockbolt (8) is broken, remove aft end fitting

 from the ballscrew shaft (10).

Remove the aft end fitting (6) from the ballscrew shaft (10).

Remove the key (9) from the inner ballscrew shaft (10).

Remove the key pin (11) from the ballscrew shaft (10).

 S 218-009
 (7)  Examine the shear lockbolt hole in the aft end fitting to make sure
 it is not worn or damaged.
 (a)  Replace the aft end fitting if it is damaged.

 (8)  Examine the key slot in the ballscrew shaft (10) for signs of
 damage.
 NOTE:____ If you find damage to the the ballscrew shaft, replace the
 actuator assembly.

Examine the bushings in the aft end fitting (6) to make sure they are not worn (AMM 52-31-02/601).

 Make sure that the flat faces on the new key pin (11) are aligned with the ballscrew shaft while you install it through the ballscrew shaft (10) .

 Assemble the aft end fitting (6) on the ballscrew shaft (10).


 NOTE: Make sure that the rig pin holes are correctly aligned when
____ you assemble the aft end fitting.

 Assemble a new key (9) and the shear lockbolt (8) through the aft end fitting (6).

 Install the key (9) and the shear lockbolt (8) in the inner ballscrew shaft (10).

 Make sure that the key (9) is installed in the slot in the ballscrew shaft (10), with the curve to the aft end fitting (6).

 Swage a new collar (7) on the shear lockbolt (8).
