SAFETY STRUT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks:
(1)
The removal of the safety strut from the side cargo door.
(2)
The installation of the safety strut on the side cargo door.
B.
The safety strut on the side cargo door is installed to prevent the accidental closure of the side cargo door.

2. Remove the Safety Strut

3ME65B17600 Safety Strut - Side Cargo Door (With -41 Lower End Fitting) (Alternative)
NOTE: Do not use the 3ME65B17600 safety strut with the -2 lower end

fitting.

Remove the safety strut (Fig. 401).

Release the pressure from the hydraulic pump.

Loosen the cap screw and disconnect the lower end fitting.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE AWAY FROM THE DOOR AND
_______ THE DOOR OPENING WHEN YOU OPERATE THE DOOR. FAILURE OF THE LIFT MECHANISM COULD CAUSE THE DOOR TO CLOSE QUICKLY WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
(3)
Close the side cargo door until it is 5 to 10 inches from the closed at midspan position (Ref 52-32-00/001).
(4)
Remove the pin.

While you hold the safety strut, disconnect the upper end fitting and remove the safety strut.

Close and latch the side cargo door (Ref 52-32-00/001).

Open the side cargo door until it is 8 to 10 inches from the midspan open position (Ref 52-32-00/001).

Install the safety strut as follows:
(a)
Turn the upper strut fitting 45-90 degrees.
