POWER PLANT - INSPECTION/CHECK

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. The first task is to to visually examine the power plant and its external components. The second task is to do an inspection of the engine after fumes have been reported on the flight deck or in the cabin.
 B.  Refer to 72-00-00/601 for the inspection of the basic engine and other
 conditions.

 (1)  
Open the fan cowl panels (AMM 71-11-02/201).

Open the thrust reversers (AMM 78-31-00/201).

Examine the engine inlet area.

 (a)  
Examine the inlet cowl and the aft flange. 1) Look for the correct installation. a) Make sure all the bolts, nuts and pins are installed

 and not broken. 2) Look for cracks. 3) Look for cracks or delamination in the acoustic panels.

 (b)  
Examine the front and rear cones of the spinner for dents or gaps.

Examine the composite skin for cracks or delamination.

Examine the aluminum foil on the interior lining for cracks or delamination.

Examine the access doors for cracks, loose fasteners, and loose hinges. 1) Make sure the access doors are in the closed position.

 (d)  
Examine the hold-open rods for worn areas on the hinge bolts and stowage receivers. 1) Do a check for the correct operation of the double action

 lock.

 (e)  
Examine these components for worn areas, cracks, corrosion and loose fasteners: 1) The hinge fittings and roll pins 2) The latches 3) The latch hooks and keepers

 (f)  
Make sure the latches operate correctly.

Examine the exhaust ports and drain holes for blockage.

Examine the T2 and T12 sensors for dents or cracks, and sealant that has gone away.

Examine the forward fairing for serviceable condition and the correct installation.

Make sure the pressure relief door is in the closed position.
