Power Plant Removal - Bootstrap Method
______________________________________ Remove the Power Plant
(e) Do these steps to release the aft cone bolts (Fig. 419):
1) Remove the bolt (5) and washer (4) that attach the nut
retainer (3) to the aft cone bolt nut (2). 2) Remove the nut retainers (3). 3) Put the fasteners in a plastic bag and temporarily attach
them to the engine.
(f)
Loosen the forward cone bolt nuts 1-1/2 to 2 turns each.
(g)
Use the adapter wrenches for the aft cone bolt nut to loosen
the aft cone bolt nut 1-1/2 to 2 turns as follows:
NOTE: When you use the adapter wrench for the aft cone
____ bolt nut (C71001 or C71014), use the tool on the right side of the engine.
1) Use the adapter wrench for the aft cone bolt nut (C71001 or C71014) to break the torque. 2) Use the aft cone bolt nut wrench (C71019-1) to lower the nut on the cone bolt.
(h) Slowly decrease the load on the lever hoists until the cone
bolts are free.
1) All of the three cone bolts must break loose from their
mating fittings and allow the engine to move down slightly.
2) If the cone bolts do not come free, do these steps: a) Slowly decrease the load held by the hoists. b) Carefully shake the engine until the cone bolts are
free.
(i)
Adjust the hoists until there is a small clearance between the cone bolt nuts and their mating surfaces.
(j)
Remove the aft cone bolt nut (2) and washer (1) (Fig. 419).
(k)
ENGINES WITHOUT THE VIBRATION ISOLATORS FOR THE FORWARD
MOUNT/THRUST REVERSER HINGES;
Remove the forward cone bolt nuts (4), washer (5), and
retainer (7) (Fig. 418).
(l)
ENGINES WITH THE VIBRATION ISOLATORS FOR THE FORWARD
MOUNT/THRUST REVERSERS HINGES;
Remove the forward cone bolt nuts (13) and retainers (11)
(Fig. 418).
NOTE: Use the bonding jumper to keep the retainer attached
____ to the engine. Move the retainer away from the cone bolts.

(3) Install the thread protectors on the two forward and one aft cone bolts.
