Prepare for Engine Operation
S 842-073-C00
(1)
Make sure the airplane is parked in a clean area with the wheels on areas that do not have oil, grease, or other materials.
S 842-075-C00
(2)
Install the chocks in front of the wheels of the main landing gear.
S 842-076-C00
(3)
Put the nose gear in the straight-forward position.
S 842-077-C00
(4)
Install the chocks in front of the nose gear wheels.
S 842-078-C00
(5)
Make sure the ground locks are installed.
S 842-083-C00
(6)
Supply the electrical power to the airplane (AMM 24-22-00/201).
S 842-084-C00
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE AIRPLANE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS UNLESS THE
_______ FUEL QUANTITY IS SUFFICIENT TO COVER THE HEAT EXCHANGERS FOR THE HYDRAULIC FLUID. THE AIRPLANE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS COULD BECOME TOO HOT.
(7)
Make sure the fuel tanks No. 1 and No. 2 have a minimum fuel load of 1750 pounds (794 kilograms) per tank.
(a)
Make sure the tank sumps are free of water.
(b)
Put the fuel in the tanks if it is necessary
(AMM 12-11-00/301).
S 842-086-C00
(8)
Make a check of the hydraulic fluid reservoir for sufficient quantity.
(a)
Put hydraulic fluid in the reservoir if it is necessary (AMM 12-12-00/301).
(9)
Put the parking brake ON.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE AIRPLANE GROSS WEIGHT, THE SECOND ENGINE N1 LIMIT
_______ AND THE GROUND/TIRE SURFACE REQUREMENTS ARE CORRECT TO PREVENT AN AIRPLANE SKID DURING ENGINE OPERATION AT HIGH POWER. THE SKID OR MOVEMENT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE OR EQUIPMENT.
(10) If one or two engines are operated at high power, do these steps:
(a)
Find the airplane gross weight and the second engine N1 limit. To find this data, do this procedure: Prevent Airplane Movement During Engine Operation At High Power (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(b)
Examine the ramp area around and below the nose and main landing gear. 1) Make sure the ramp area and the tires are clean and free of
contamination and possible FOD (Foreign Object Damage).
2) Water, frost, ice, snow, oil, grease, sand or other contaminations are not permitted on the pavement and under the tires.
3) The concrete pavement under the airplane can be moist.
(c)
Apply the parking brake.
1) Make sure the red warning light for the parking brake is ON.
(d)
Make sure the ANTISKID switch, on the center instrument panel P2, is in the OFF position.
(e)
Put the nose landing gear in the straight forward direction.
(f)
Make sure the ground locks are installed on the nose and main landing gear.
(g)
Put the chocks 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) in front and aft of the nose gear and all the main landing gear tires.
S 842-089-C00
(11)
Remove the engine inlet and exhaust covers, if installed.
S 842-090-C00
(12)
Make a check around these areas of the engine for tools and unwanted materials.
(a)
The air inlet.
(b)
The fan and turbine exhausts.
(c)
The leading edge of the wing over the engine.
(d)
The ground area around and below the engine.
