Power Plant Removal - Bootstrap Method
______________________________________
TASK 71-00-02-004-032-C00
3. Power Plant Removal - Bootstrap Method
______________________________________
A. General
CAUTION: THE ENGINE MUST BE PRESERVED PER CHAPTER AMM 71-00-03/201 TO
_______
PREVENT INTERNAL PARTS CORROSION OR FAILURES.
(1)
This procedure uses bootstrap equipment to remove the engine from the strut.
(2)
This task has two topics as follows:
(a)
Install the bootstrap equipment.
(b)
Remove the engine.
(3)
The power plant, when removed from the strut, weighs approximately 5340 pounds (2422 kg), engine cradle weight not included.
(4)
You must use dynamometers in the hoist configuration for applied forces.
(a)
If the loads between the airplane structure and the power plant structure are more than the specified limits during the engine removal or installation, do this step: 1) Make an inspection of the front and rear engine mount
fittings for signs of damage (chipped finish, nicks, gouges, etc.) (AMM 71-21-00/601).
(5)
The lever hoists, which attach to the support arms of the bootstrap equipment, permit the power plant to turn in pitch and roll while it is hung.
(6)
The bootstrap equipment shown in the illustrations can be different from the bootstrap equipment you have. However, all the different bootstrap equipment is removed, installed, and operated in the same way.
