N.  Cowling Limitations
 S 842-066-C00
 (1)
Engine operation is usually done with the fan cowl panels and the
 thrust reversers closed and latched.

 S 842-067-C00

 (2)
Engine motoring with the engine cowling open is permitted with these conditions:

 (a)
Motor the Engine
 1) The thrust reverser halves may be open up to the
maximum motoring speeds of 24-28% N2 rpm.

 2)  The fan cowl panels may be open up to the maximum motoring speeds of 24-28% N2 rpm.

 (b)
Engine Operation

 1)  The fan cowl panels may be open during an idle leak check for these conditions: a) All operation is in forward thrust. b) Low idle rpm is not exceeded. c) Local wind velocities are not more than 20 knots, with
 wind gusts to 30 knots.
 d)  You follow all procedures as specified in the Power Plant Reference Table, Test No. 3 (Ref 71-00-00/501).
 2)  Engine operation with the thrust reversers open is not permitted. 3) Do not operate the engine in reverse thrust with the fan cowl panels open.
 O.  Inlet Cowl Thermal Anti-Ice (TAI) System Limitations
 S 842-068-C00
 (1)
Do not use the inlet cowl TAI system for more than 30 seconds when
the temperature is more than 65°F (18°C).

 S 842-069-C00

 (2)
There is no time limit for operation of the inlet cowl TAI system
when the temperature is at or less than 65°F (18°C).

 P.
Engine Start That Is Not Satisfactory

 S 842-070-C00
 (1)  If the engine start is not satisfactory, do these steps:
 (a)
Immediately move the start lever to CUTOFF.

 (b)
Continue to motor the engine to remove the fuel and the fuel vapor.

 (c)
Open the four ENGINE IGNITION circuit breakers on the load control center panel P6-2.

 (d)
Shutdown the engine and find the cause of the engine start problem.

 (e)
Do the start procedure from the beginning, again.

S 842-071-C00
 (2)
An engine start that is not satisfactory is usually indicated by
these conditions; a hot start, a hung start, or a no start.

 (a)
Hot Start

 1)  The engine lights up but the exhaust gas temperature goes over the limit very quickly.

 (b)
Hung Start 1) The engine lights up but the engine speed does not increase. 2) The engine speed remains at a low value that is equal to or below the usual speed for the start.

 3)  Stop the start procedure if the N2 accleration decreases, the N1 acceleration decreases, or if the N1 speed decreases to zero.
 4)  A hung start can be caused by low air pressure to the starter, or the starter could cutout before the engine goes to a self accelerating speed.
 5)  The starter must help the engine to accelerate to speeds that are more than 40-45% N2 for a successful start.
 (c)  No Start 1) The engine does not light up in 10 seconds. 2) A no start can be caused by a problem in the ignition
system or the igniter plugs, no fuel to the engine, electrical power that is not sufficient, or a problem in the main engine control unit.
 Q.  Engine Indicating System (EIS) Abnormal Start Advisory System (ASAS)
 S 212-147-C00
 (1)
The EIS has an Abnormal Start Advisory System (ASAS) to give the crew an early indication of a hung start, hot start, start stalls or idle rollback.
