(d)
Let the engines becomes stable at the low idle for a minimum of two minutes.
(e)
Make sure that all of the bleed air and electrical loads are off.
(f)
Make sure that the PMC switches on the pilots' aft overhead panel, P5, are ON. 1) Make sure that the PMC INOP Lights go out.
(g)
Make sure that the engine instrumentation indications are in the operation ranges.
(h)
Manually set the N1 reference/target bugs on the N1 indicators to the Accel Check Target N1.
NOTE: To manually set the bug, pull out and turn the
____ manual set knob (located on the lower right hand corner of the indicator) to get the necessary bug position.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE SUFFICIENT BRAKES AND THAT THE
_______ EXHAUST (JET BLAST) IS NOT DANGEROUS. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURIES TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
(i)
Move the forward throttle levers quickly (in 1 second or less) from the idle stop to the vertical position. This position corresponds to a stable engine speed of approximately 60-70% N1.
(j)
Record the time for each of the engines to accelerate from the initial movement of the throttle levers from Low Idle to 40% N1.
(k)
Move the throttle levers back to the idle position.
(l)
The difference in acceleration time between the two engines must not exceed four seconds. 1) If the difference exceeds four seconds, do the applicable
trouble-shooting procedure (AMM 71-00-42/101).

TEST NO. 8 - ACCEL/DECEL CHECK
______________________________
(m) Do the steps that follow for each engine: 1) In one minute or less, move the forward thrust lever to the Static T.O. (PMC ON/OFF) N1 position. a) Let the engine become stable for a minimum of 15
seconds. b) Make sure the engine instrumentation indications are in the operation ranges. 2) Move the forward thrust lever until the engine is at 40% N1 (+/-2% N1). 3) Prepare to measure the time to do this test.
CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL INCIDENTS OF COMPRESSOR SURGE (STALL) OR
_______ FLAMEOUT AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM. IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
DO NOT GO ABOVE THE ENGINE OPERATION LIMITS (AMM 71-00-00/201). IF YOU GO ABOVE THE ENGINE OPERATION LIMITS, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
4) Quickly move the forward thrust lever, in 1 second or less, from the 40% N1 position to the full throttle position.
5) Immediately after the engine gets to the Accel Check Target N1, quickly move the forward thrust lever, in 2 seconds or less, to the idle position.
6) Make a record of the time from 40% N1 to the Accel Check Target N1.
7) Make sure that the engine decelerates smoothly and becomes stable at idle. a) No flameout or compressor surge (stall) can occur.
8) The difference in acceleration time between the two engines must not be more than 2 seconds.
If the difference in acceleration time is more than 2 seconds, do the applicable trouble-shooting procedure (AMM 71-00-42/101).
