This procedure can be used to make a check of the engine operation or related systems when engine operation is necessary.
(3)
During cold weather, additional procedures such as preheating may be necessary.
(4)
These ground start procedures are authorized for two successive attempts to start the engine. Do not operate the starter more than the limits.
(a)
If the engine fails to start after the second attempt, do the steps that follow: 1) Dry motor for an additional two minutes, then shut down the
engine. 2) Do this procedure, Power Plant - Trouble Shooting (Starting And Idle) (AMM 71-00-41/101).
(5)
The starter air discharge duct fitting and forward drain hole should be observed during starting for signs of too much leakage
(6)
Indication readings should be done while you observe pointers during transient operation and digitals during stable operation.
(7)
It is important to have a clean engine compartment because the large quantity of airflow can pull unwanted material into the engine.
(a)
You must fully clean and examine the area after you are done with the work.
(b)
Make sure there is no dirt, oil or grease in the inlet area.
(8)
In order to prevent corrosion in the compressor stages and damage to the fan, it is recommended that you install the engine inlet and exhaust covers when it is possible.
(9)
When there is freezing precipitation or sufficient wind to turn the engine it is important to immediately install the covers on the engine.
