TEST NO. 5 - POWER ASSURANCE CHECK

 (q)  Adjust the EGT and N2 margins for these effects: 1) Altitude (4000 feet and above)
 NOTE: This adjustment is applicable if the route structure
____ of the airplane includes an airport above sea level. There is a gradual effect with the largest EGT adjustment at 4000 feet. For a more accurate effect, refer to the table that follows.
 a)  On engines operated at 20,000 pounds thrust or less, decrease the EGT margin by the adjustment for the applicable altitude in this table.

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT GO OVER THE EGT LIMIT OR THE N2
_______ LIMIT. ON A HOT DAY WITH A FULL RATED TAKEOFF, THE ENGINE CAN GO OVER THE LIMITS. IF YOU GO OVER THE LIMITS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
 (r) If the adjusted EGT or N2 values are more than the maximum EGT and N2 limits (no margin), do these steps: 1) Do the engine shutdown operation (normal) (AMM 71-00-00/201). 2) Do trouble-shooting of the engine (AMM 71-00-42/101). 3) Make sure you do a check of the N2 (AMM 77-12-00/501)
 and/or the EGT (AMM 77-21-00/501) indication system. 4) Do a borescope inspection of the engine (AMM 72-00-00/601). 5) Correct the problems you find, and do the MPA test again.

 6)  If no problems are found, it is recommended that you do the MPA test again. a) If the initial MPA test was done under cold engine
 conditions, one more test would be a more satisfactory
 indication of the engine condition.
 b)  Many conditons have an effect on the accuracy of the MPA test, thus the MPA test should not be used by itself for the acceptance or rejection of an engine.
 (s)  If the power assurance check is specified as necessary for after maintenance, do the takeoff power check.
 NOTE: If the Test No. 8 - Accel/Decel check is done after
____ this test, it is not necessary to do the takeoff power check.
 (t)  
If no more tests are necessary, do the engine shutdown (normal) operation (AMM 71-00-00/201).

Takeoff Power Check

 (1)  
Do these steps to do the Takeoff Power Check

 (a)  
If not already done, find and make a record of the static takeoff (T.O.) power position for the current OAT and barometric pressure. 1) Look at the STATIC T.O. PMC ON/OFF trim data


 (AMM 71-00-01/201).
 CAUTION: SUPPLY THE PNEUMATIC POWER DURING THE TAKEOFF POWER CHECK
_______ THIS WILL PERMIT YOU TO MOTOR THE ENGINE, IF IT IS NECESSARY.
 KEEP THE PRESSURE ON THE "A" AND "B" HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. THIS WILL MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FULL CONTROL OF THE NOSE GEAR STEERING AND THE MAIN WHEEL BRAKES.
 (b)  
Do the engine start (normal) operation (AMM 71-00-00/201).

 (c)  
Let the engine become stable for 5 minutes at low idle with no air bleeds or electrical loads.
