 (1)  Do these steps to do the Power Assurance Check
 CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE TOTAL TEMPERATURE INDICATION FROM THE
_______ AIRPLANE FOR THE AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE. MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THE LOCAL BAROMETRIC PRESSURE (NOT CORRECTED TO SEA LEVEL) FROM THE CONTROL TOWER. THIS WILL PREVENT AN INCORRECT TRIM TARGET SELECTION.
 DO NOT USE A MERCURY THERMOMETER ON THE AIRPLANE. MERCURY (FROM A BROKEN THERMOMETER) CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE COMPONENTS.
 (a)  
Find and make a record of these conditions: 1) The ambient air temperature [outside air temperature (OAT)]

 in shade of the airplane.
 2) The barometric pressure.


 (b)  
Find and make a record of these values for the current OAT on the MPA table you use. 1) The %N1 Target 2) The Max EGT 3) The Max N2

 (c)  
If it is possible, park the airplane such that it is pointed into the wind. A crosswind may have an effect on the engine operation and cause the data to be less accurate (AMM 71-00-00/201).


 CAUTION: SUPPLY THE PNEUMATIC POWER DURING THE TAKEOFF POWER CHECK
_______ THIS WILL PERMIT YOU TO MOTOR THE ENGINE, IF IT IS NECESSARY.
 KEEP THE PRESSURE ON THE "A" AND "B" HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. THIS WILL MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FULL CONTROL OF THE NOSE GEAR STEERING AND THE MAIN WHEEL BRAKES.
 (d)  
Do the engine start (normal) operation (AMM 71-00-00/201).

 (e)  
Let the engine become stable for 5 minutes at low idle.

 (f)  
Make sure that all the bleed air and electrical loads are off.

TEST NO. 5 - POWER ASSURANCE CHECK

 (g)  
Make sure the engine indications are in the correct ranges.

 (h)  
Make sure the applicable PMC switch on the pilots' aft overhead panel (P5) is in the ON position, and the PMC INOP light is off.

 (i)  
Move the forward thrust lever to the applicable power position (N1 target) and the tolerance is |0.5 %N1.

 (j)  
Let the engine become stable without throttle adjustments for a minimum of four minutes.

 (k)  
Make a record of the N1, N2 and EGT.

 (l)  
Slowly move the forward thrust lever to the idle position.

 (m)  
If the N1 record is different from the N1 target by more than |0.5 %N1 (tolerance), the test point should be done again.

 (n)  
Find if there is a positive or negative difference between the N1 target and N1 record. 1) If the N1 target is more than the N1 record, there is a

 positive (+) difference. 2) If the N1 target is less than the N1 record, there is a negative (-) difference.

 (o)  
Adjust the EGT and N2 records:


 WARNING:_______ MAKE SURE THE AIRPLANE HAS THE CORRECT GROSS WEIGHT,
 SUFFICIENT BRAKES, AND THAT THE (JET BLAST) IS NOT
 DANGEROUS (AMM 71-00-00/201).  THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO
 PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE AND ENGINE.
 CAUTION:_______ DO NOT USE FAST ACCELERATIONS AND DECELERATIONS.  DAMAGE
 TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
 DO NOT GO ABOVE THE ENGINE OPERATION LIMITS
 (AMM 71-00-00/201).  DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.

 1)  Use the difference between the N1 target and the N1 record that you found. a) For each 0.1 %N1 positive difference
 (N1 target more than N1 record)
 -
Add 1.0°C to the EGT record to get EGT adj

 -
Add 0.045% to the N2 record to get N2 adj


 b)  For each 0.1 %N1 negative difference (N1 target less than N1 record)
 -
Subtract 1.0°C from the EGT record to get EGT adj

 -
Subtract 0.045% from the N2 record to get N2 adj


 (p)  Find the N2 and EGT margins (Refer to the Example): 1) N2 margin = N2 max - N2 adj 2) EGT margin = EGT max - EGT adj
