(6) IF A FUEL CONTROL BOX IS NOT INSTALLED ON THIS ENGINE; Do these steps to install the fuel control box (Figs. 407 and 407A):
NOTE: The steps that follow are optional and can be used if the
____ the replacement engine does not have a fuel control box attached, if the fuel control box is not compatible for the airplane model and engine type, or if it is operator policy.
For more information on the installation of the fuel control box, refer to AMM 76-11-08/401.
(a)
Move the power lever on the MEC to 25-40 degrees from the reverse stop position.
(b)
Put the fuel control box on the MEC.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ALIGN THE DOWEL PINS WITH THE HOLES.
_______ DO NOT USE THE BOLTS TO PULL THE CONTROL BOX AND MEC TOGETHER; USE MANUAL PRESSURE ONLY. DAMAGE TO THE MEC AND THE CONTROL BOX CAN OCCUR FROM THE MISALIGNMENT OF THE DOWEL PINS.
(c)
Align the quadrant gear to align the fork with the power lever.
(d)
Put the control box housing in the correct position to align the dowel pins and the three bolt holes in the MEC.
NOTE: The dowels on the support plate of the control box
____ on CFM56-3B-2 engines are 0.250 inches off center while the dowels on CFM56-3C-1 engines are 0.437 inches off center.
(e)
Push the control box on the MEC.
(f)
Turn the power lever to the 80 degree rig position.
(g)
Install the rig pin through the rig pin hole on the fuel control box with the mark "R".
NOTE: The bolt holes in the control box, the quadrant gear
____ and the fitting on the MEC are now in alignment.
(h) Install the three bolts (6) to attach the fuel control box. 1) Tighten the bolts to 80-100 pound-inches (9.0-11.3 N.m.).

Fan Case Connections on the Left Side
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT NO WASHERS OR OTHER DEBRIS ARE IN THE
_______ CONTROL BOX HOUSING. WASHERS AND DEBRIS IN THE HOUSING CAN CAUSE THE THRUST LEVERS TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO MOVE.
(i)
Use a light to visually examine the inside of the fuel control box housing to make sure that no washers or other debris are inside.
(j)
Install the inner coverplate (2) to the fuel control box with the two bolts (7), washers (8) and nuts (1).
(k)
Use the four bolts (4) and washers (5) to attach the
coverplate (3) to the fuel control box.
(l)
Install a lockwire to each pair of bolts (4).
(m)
Install the autothrottle power lever angle (PLA) synchro, if it is not installed on the fuel control box (AMM 22-31-11/401).
(n)
Install the PLA synchro wire bundle on the MEC bracket with a clamp. 1) Connect the electrical connector.

(7) Connect the push-pull cables for the thrust control as follows:
NOTE:____There are two thrust control push-pull cables. They are the throttle control cable and the fuel shutoff cable.
