Calculate the torque at the torque wrench to get the necessary torque of 1700-2150 pound-inches (192-243 Newton meters) (Fig. 423). 1) Example (AMM 70-20-02/201):
Use the formula Y=(T x L)/(L + E) for the condition of the nut and torque wrench in a straight line:
Y = Torque Wrench Indication T = Necessary Torque = 1700-2150 pound-inches (192-243 Newton meters) L = Length of Torque Wrench = use 24 inches (0.61 m) in this example E = Length of Adapter = 13 inches (0.33 m)
For 1700 pound-inches (192 Newton meters), Y = (1700 x 24)/(24 + 13) = 1103 pound-inches (125 Newton meters)
For 2150 pound-inches (243 Newton meters), Y = (2150 x 24)/(24 + 13) = 1395 pound-inches (158 Newton meters)
CAUTION: WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT WITH THE ADAPTER WRENCH, BE
_______ CAREFUL NOT TO HIT THE STRUT AND THE THRUST REVERSER WITH THE WRENCH. DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(b) Tighten the nut (2) to the torque value (Y) that you
calculated.
NOTE: Make sure the chamfered edge of the bolt extends

beyond the nut.

(18) Tighten the forward cone bolt nuts as follows (Fig. 418):
(a) ENGINES WITHOUT THE VIBRATION ISOLATORS FOR THE FORWARD
MOUNT/THRUST REVERSER HINGES;
Tighten the forward cone bolt nuts (4) to
1200-1400 pound-inches (136-158 Newton meters).
NOTE: Make sure the chamfered edge of the bolt extends

beyond the nut.
CAUTION: YOU MUST USE THE ALIGNMENT GUIDE TOOL TO KEEP THE CONE
_______ BOLT ALIGNED WITH THE VIBRATION ISOLATOR WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT. IF YOU DO NOT USE THE ALIGNMENT GUIDE TOOL, THE CONE BOLT CAN TURN.
(b) ENGINES WITH THE VIBRATION ISOLATORS FOR THE FORWARD MOUNT/ THRUST REVERSER HINGES; Install the alignment guide tool (C71018) between the cone bolt and the vibration isolator (Fig. 424).
NOTE: Install the tool from the forward side for the right
____ cone bolt and from the aft side for the left cone bolt.
1) While you hold the alignment guide tool in the correct position, tighten the forward cone bolt nut (13) to 1200-1400 pound-inches (136-158 Newton meters).
NOTE: Make sure the chamfered edge of the bolt extends
____
beyond the nut.
a) Make sure you can install the nut retainers (10) such that the attachment holes of the nut retainer and retainer (11) are aligned.
(c) Tighten the other forward cone bolt nut with the above steps.

(19) Attach the thrust links to the fan frame as follows (Fig. 417).
(a) If the Thrust Links Were Kept with the Strut (preferred method): at each thrust link, attach the washer (3) and nut (4) to the bolt (1) and washer (2) which were temporarily installed earlier. 1) Tighten the nuts (4) to 90-165 pound-inches
(10-19 Newton meters).
