 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE ENGINE START SWITCH DOES NOT RELEASE FROM
_______ THE GND POSITION BEFORE 47% N2 RPM. A HOT START OR A HUNG START CAN OCCUR AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
 DO NOT OPERATE THE STARTER MORE THAN THE STARTER LIMITS.
 DAMAGE TO THE STARTER CAN OCCUR.
 (c) Put the applicable ENGINE START switch to the GRD position. 1) Make sure the START VALVE OPEN light, on the center
 instrument panel P2, comes on (Fig. 208). 2) Make sure that there is a decrease in duct pressure. 3) Make sure the N2 rotor turns. 4) Make sure the engine oil pressure increases.
 CAUTION: BEFORE YOU MOVE THE START LEVER FORWARD TO THE IDLE
_______ POSITION, MAKE SURE THE N1 ROTOR TURNS COUNTERCLOCKWISE. N1 ROTATION MUST BE CONFIRMED BY THE GROUND CREW.
 DO NOT MOVE THE START LEVER FORWARD UNTIL YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE CONDITIONS:
 ú  - N2 RPM IS EQUAL TO OR MORE THAN 25%, OR
 -ENGINE IS AT THE MAXIMUM MOTORING SPEED WITH A MINIMUM

 N2 RPM OF 20%. A HOT START CAN OCCUR AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
 (d)  Before you move the start lever forward, make sure the N1 rotor turns in the counterclockwise direction.
 (e) Move the start lever forward to the IDLE position when the ú N2 rpm is equal to or more than 25%.
 1)  If the engine motor speed is less than 25% N2 rpm, you can move the start lever forward to the IDLE position when the engine is at the maximum motoring speed (minimum of 20% N2 rpm).
 NOTE: The maximum motoring speed is defined as the rate of
____ increase in N2 rpm is less than 1% in approximately 5 seconds.

CAUTION: IF THE FUEL FLOW IS MORE THAN 460 PPH (209 KGPH) BEFORE
_______ LIGHTUP, A HOT START CAN OCCUR. YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO MOVE THE START LEVER TO THE CUTOFF POSITION IF THE EGT INCREASES QUICKLY THRU 700 DEGREES C.
 (f)  Monitor these indications before lightup occurs:
 -N1
 -N2
 -EGT
 -OIL PRESS
 -FF (fuel flow)
 NOTE: The usual time for lightup is two to three seconds.

 CAUTION: FOR THESE CONDITIONS AFTER YOU MOVE THE START LEVER:
_______
 -IMMEDIATE LIGHTUP (TORCHING)
 -ENGINE DOES NOT LIGHTUP IN 10 SECONDS
 -FUEL OR IGNITION IS ACCIDENTALLY STOPPED DO THESE STEPS FOR THOSE CONDITIONS:
 -IMMEDIATELY MOVE THE START LEVER TO CUTOFF.
 -MAKE SURE THE FUEL VALVE LIGHT GOES BRIGHT, THEN DIM.
 -CONTINUE TO MOTOR ENGINE FOR 60 SECONDS MINIMUM TO CLEAR FIRE OR ALL RESIDUAL FUEL AND VAPOR.
 -PUT THE ENGINE START SWITCH TO OFF WHEN THE ENGINE CONDITION IS NORMAL.
 (g)  If the engine immediately lights up, or the engine does not light up in 10 seconds, do these steps: 1) Immediately move the start lever to the CUTOFF position. 2) Make sure the fuel valve light on the overhead panel P5
 comes on bright (valve in transit) and then goes dim (valve closed). 3) Continue to motor the engine for a minimum of 60 seconds to clear a fire or fuel or fuel vapors. 4) Put the engine start switch to the OFF position when the
 engine has become stable. 5) Wait for the engine to stop. 6) Do the trouble shooting and correct the problem before you
 start the engine again (AMM 71-00-41/101).
