 G.  Install the Control Column
 S 424-020
 (1)  
Install the control column:

 (a)  
Make sure the control column is in the neutral position.

 (b)  
Install the right clamp (10) with clearances on two sides.

 (c)  
Install the bolt (12), washer (13), and nut (14) to the right clamp (10). 1) Tighten the nut (14) to 30-40 pound-inches.

 (d)  
Make sure that the clearances on two sides of the clamp are between 0.002 and 0.21 inch.

 (e)  
Make sure that the difference between the two clearances is in the limits of |0.03 inch.

 (f)  
For the captain's control column; Engage the splines: 1) Move the stub shaft to the right side. 2) Engage the face splines on the control column with the face

 splines on the stub shaft.

 (g)  
For the first officer's control column; Engage the splines: 1) Move the torque tube, the captain's control column and the stub shaft to the right side.

 2)  Engage the face splines on the control column with the face splines on the torque tube.

 (h)  
Install the left clamp (10) with clearances on two sides.

 (i)  
Align the clearances on the left clamp with the clearances on the right clamp.

 (j)  
Install the bolt (12), washer (13), and nut (14) to the left clamp. 1) Tighten the nut (14) 30-40 pound-inches.

 (k)  
Make sure that the clearances on two sides of the clamp are between 0.002 and 0.21 inch.

 (l)  
Make sure that the difference between the two clearances is in the limits of |0.03 inch.

 (m)  
Make sure that the control column angle is 8 degrees 17 minutes |1.0 degree forward of the vertical.

 (n)  
Connect the wire bundle (7) to the terminal strip.

 (o)  
Examine the dust seal (6).
 1) Replace the dust seal if it is damaged.


 (p)  
Seal the clearances between the dust seals with the sealant or the primer.


 NOTE: Do not let the sealant or the primer to touch the dust
____ seal cover on the control column.
 (q)  Make sure the dust seal cover (5) is installed correctly into the dust seal (6).
