Install the Reaction Hinge

Examine the reaction hinge and mating parts on the elevator lug for worn parts.
(a)
Replace the part, if it is worn (AMM 27-31-03/601).

Install the reaction hinge:
(a)
Align the hinge with the holes in the stabilizer hinge rib.
(b)
Install the bolts (14) and (15).
(c)
Install the washers (16) and (17), and nuts (18): 1) Tighten the nuts (18) at the inboard elevator hinge to 220-260 pound-inches torque plus run on torque.
2) Tighten the nuts (18) at the outboard elevator hinge to 130-180 pound-inches torque plus run on torque.
(d)
Apply a thin layer of grease on the hinge bolt assembly (9).
(e)
Install the hinge bolt assembly (9) through the hinge with the head outboard.
(f)
Install the washer (13), outer nut (12), and inner nut (11) on the hinge bolt assembly (9).

(g) Do these steps to tighten the outer nut (12) and the inner nut (11).
NOTE: Tighten the outer nut (12) first but do not tighten it
____ again after tightening the inner nut (11).
1) Tighten the outer nut (12) at the inboard elevator reaction hinge to 1600-1700 pound-inches torque. 2) Tighten the inner nut (11) at the inboard elevator reaction hinge to 500-700 pound-inches torque.
3) Tighten the outer nut (12) at the outboard elevator
reaction hinge to 1000-1100 pound-inches torque.
4) Tighten the inner nut (11) at the outboard elevator
reaction hinge to 300-500 pound-inches torque.

Pressurize the hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4 (AMM 29-11-00/201).
