STABILIZER TRIM DRIVE MECHANISM - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. There are two tasks in this procedure. The tasks are the removal and the installation of the stabilizer trim drive mechanism (which is referred to as the "mechanism"). The procedure has these parts:
(1)
The removal of the mechanism
(2)
The installation of the mechanism.
B.
With the airplane stopped, the force of the stabilizer on the mechanism is about 2600 pounds (11,560 newtons) up. It is therefore necessary to hold the stabilizer during and after removal. The complete mechanism assembly weighs approximately 565 pounds (256 kilograms). You must use the hoist equipment for the removal and the installation.
