Move the halves of the two split retaining rings (3) apart. 1) Remove the split retaining rings (3).
(d)
Remove the upper gimbal pins (7 and 8). 1) Keep the bushing (4) from each gimbal pin locating screw.

Disconnect the lower gimbal retaining pins (Fig. 402):
(a)
Remove the retaining bolts (14) from the ends of the lower gimbal safety shaft (20).
(b)
Remove the lower gimbal safety shaft (20).
(c)
Remove the retaining pin bolts (24)
(d)
Remove the support brackets of the hydraulic tubing if it is necessary.
(e)
Make sure the hoist holds the weight of the mechanism.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE METAL TOOLS TO REMOVE THE LOWER GIMBAL
_______ RETAINING PIN. DAMAGE TO THE CASING AND THE PIN FLANGES OF THE TRIM DRIVE MECHANISM CAN OCCUR.
(f) Remove the lower gimbal retaining pin (16). 1) Make sure the mechanism is stable. 2) Remove the lower gimbal retaining pins.
a) Use wood wedges below the pin flanges to start the removal. b) Use a rubber mallet to continue the removal.

Remove the mechanism:
(a)
Move the mechanism clear of the actuator fitting on the stabilizer and the attachment lugs.
(b)
Move the mechanism through the access door 312A and lower it to the stand.
