HORIZONTAL STABILIZER HINGE - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. This subject has three tasks. The first task is an inspection of the hinge pin for dimensional tolerance. The second task is an inspection of the hinge pin for corrosion. The third task is a free play check of the horizontal stabilizer.
B. In the first task you measure the inner or outer diameter of the parts of the hinge pin. The parts include bearings and outer pin.
C. In the second task you examine the stabilizer pivot pin for corrosion.
D. In the third task you examine the stabilizer flutter free play limit.

(a)
Use a micrometer or a vernier caliper to measure the parts.
(b)
Compare the dimensions you measured with the permitted dimensions shown in Fig. 601.
