1) Make sure that the scale indication at the point where the elevators start to move is not more than 8.6 pounds.

Do a check of the differential pressure switch:
(a)
Pressurize the AUX 1 and 2 pitot system to 2.5 - 3.5 psig (or 318 - 372 knots IAS).
(b)
Set the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER TAIL switches No. 1 and 4 on P461 the Pilots' Overhead Maintenance Panel to SHUTOFF.

Make sure that the ELEVATOR FEEL does not show on the EICAS status page.
(d)
Decrease the AUX 2 pitot pressure to the ambient pressure.
(e)
Make sure that the ELEVATOR FEEL is on the EICAS status page.
(f)
Decrease the AUX 1 pitot pressure to the ambient pressure.
(g)
Pressurize the AUX 2 pitot system to 2.5-3.5 psig (or 318-372 knots IAS).
(h)
Make sure that the ELEVATOR FEEL is on the EICAS status page.
(i)
Decrease the AUX 2 pitot static pressure to the ambient pressure.
(j)
Make sure that the ELEVATOR FEEL is not on the EICAS status page
(k)
Move the captain's control column at a constant rate from the full forward to the full aft to the full forward in approximately three seconds.
(l)
Make sure that the ELEVATOR FEEL does not show on the EICAS status page during the control column movement.
(m)
Set all the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER TAIL switches on the P461 Pilots' Overhead Maintenance Panel in NORM.

Do a check of the elevator freeplay (inboard and outboard):
(a)
Make sure that the control column is in the neutral position.
(b)
Install a rigging pin E-2 at the aft quadrant.
(c)
Do a check of the inboard elevator freeplay:
1) Put the dial indicatior 1 inch from the trailing edge at the inboard end of the elevator.
CAUTION: USE SUFFICIENT PADDING ON THE THE FORCE SCALE TO
_______ PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATOR SURFACES.
2) Apply a down force of 30 pounds at about 11 inches from the the elevator trailing edge and at a point on the elevator rib opposite the pressurized PCA being tested (Fig. 506).
NOTE: For padding, you can use a wood block of

3) Set the dial indicator to zero while you apply the down force.
4) Slowly release the 30 pounds force.
