_______ STABILIZER AND ELEVATOR SURFACES BEFORE YOU MOVE THE STABILIZER. THE STABILIZERS AND THE ELEVATORS CAN MOVE QUICKLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Set the stabilizer at neutral rig position (AMM 27-41-00/201).

Defuel the horizontal stabilizer fuel tank (Airplanes with a horizontal stabilizer fuel tank) (AMM 28-26-00/201).

Do this task to depressurize the hydraulic system No. 2 and No. 3: "Remove Hydraulic Power" (AMM 29-11-00/201).

Remove the spray shields from the center section of the horizontal stabilizer.

Procedure

(1)
Measure the gimbal bushing wear (Index No. 1-4 on Fig. 601):
(a)
Install the stabilizer handling equipment (Fig. 602): 1) Loosely attach the support brackets of the spreader bar to the stiffeners with bolts.
2) If the spreader bar and support brackets cannot be installed due to the interference with air instrument tubing, do these steps: a) Loosen the fittings for the pitot and static lines. b) Loosen the pitot and static line clamps mounted on the
bulkhead stiffener. c) Disconnect and cap the pitot and static lines outboard of the actuator assembly. d) Move the pitot and static lines outboard of the spreader bar and support brackets. 3) Loosely attach the spreader bar to the support brackets with the bolts. 4) Tighten the bolts of the support bracket and the spreader bar equally. 5) Attach the left and the right jack assemblies to the spreader bar with the ball ball lockpins. 6) Do the following to install the base assemblies: a) Move the clamping arms of the base assembly to the open position. b) With the handles pointed to the up position, install one assembly on each stabilizer actuator fitting.
