Install the rod end assembly into the inner piston. Engage approximately two threads.

Apply a light coat of grease BMS 3-24 (or equivalent), on the exposed threads of the rod end.
(n)
Thread the rod end assembly into the inner piston until you can install the tool rig pin into the rod end bearing and, if necessary, turn the inner piston of the actuator.
(o)
Install the tool pin between the tool guides and through the rod end bearing.
(p)
Torque the locknut to 950-1000 pound-inches.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THERE IS NO VIBRO-ENGRAVING IDENTIFICATION ON
_______ THE ROD ENDS. VIBRO-ENGRAVING CAUSES STRESS RISERS IN THE ROD ENDS AND CAN RESULT IN ROD END CRACKING. VIBRO-ENGRAVING IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE METHOD FOR IDENTIFICATION.
(q)
Put the new (non-reed switch) rod end part number and theoriginal dash number and the original serial number on a newnameplate BAC27DHY407.
(r)
Form the nameplate to the contour of the actuator housing and use a strap to attach the nameplate to the housing at the location shown in Fig. 402.

Do the leading edge slat actuator lock indicator visual check with the steps that follow (AMM 27-81-41/601):
(a)
Remove any leading edge slat locks that were installed (AMM 27-81-00/201).
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FLAP LEVER IS IN THE UP POSITION
_______ BEFORE THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS PRESSURIZED. THE LEADING EDGE SLATS CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Make sure the lock indicator hole is open.
(d)
Put a 0.115 to 0.125 inch diameter steel rod, one inch long, into the lock indicator hole.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE
_______ LEADING EDGE CONTROL SURFACE. THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Move the flap lever to the 1-unit position.and make sure the actuator extends to the intermediate position.
(f)
Remove the steel rod and make sure the lock indicator hole is covered.

Loosely install the bolts.
