LEADING EDGE FLAP AND SLAT CONTROL SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
_________________________________________________________________
1. General_______
A. There are five tasks in this procedure. The procedure contains these tasks:
(1)
The pressurization of hydraulic system B
(2)
The removal of pressure from hydraulic systems A, B and Standby
(3)
The deactivation of the leading edge flaps and slats from the trailing edge flaps
(4)
The installation of the leading edge flap and slat locks
(5)
The removal of the leading edge flap and slat locks.
B.
You must release the pressure from the hydraulic systems A and B and the standby hydraulic system before you do maintenance on the leading edge flap and slat control system. This is to prevent injury to persons because of accidental operation of the control system. You must put maintenance stands and equipment away from the limits of travel of the leading edge flaps and slats.
C.
The hydraulic system B electric pump pressurizes the hydraulic system B for operation of the leading edge flaps and slats.
D.
When you operate the hydraulic system B pump to pressurize the hydraulic system B, you must obey these conditions:
(1)
A minimum of 1675 pounds (761 kilograms) (250 gallons) of fuel is necessary in the No. 2 fuel tank to supply hydraulic fluid cooling. On hot days, or when the fuel temperature is more than 90°F (32.2°C), monitor the system B overheat indicator. Turn the switch pump off when the hydraulic fluid becomes too hot.
