(2)
Make sure the flap control lever is in the zero (FLAPS UP) unit detent and the flaps and slats are fully retracted.
S 865-210
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU RELEASE THE PRESSURE FROM THE HYDRAULIC
_______ SYSTEM WHEN YOU DO THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE LEADING EDGE SLATS. WITH THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PRESSURIZE, THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS CAN MOVE. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(3)
Release the pressure from hydraulic system B (Ref 27-81-00/201).
S 825-208
(4)
Adjust the slat end seals with the steps that follow (Fig. 505):
(a)
Measure the end clearances between slat to adjacent slat, or between slat to adjacent structure and record measurements.
(b)
Pressurize the hydraulic system B (Ref 27-81-00/201).
(c)
Move the flap control lever to the 10-unit detent to fully extend the leading edge slats.
(d)
Move the flap control lever to the 5-unit detent.
(e) Release the pressure from hydraulic system B when the leading edge slats are halfway between the fully extended and the intermediate position (AMM 27-81-00/201).
NOTE: The retraction of the slat removes the load from the rod
____ end bolt of the slat actuator.

A 737-300/400/500MAINTENANCE MANUAL
WARNING:_______ CAREFULLY INSTALL THE LEADING EDGE SLAT ACTUATOR LOCKS.
THE LEADING EDGE SLATS CAN MOVE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT
INSTALL THE LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(f)
Install the leading edge slat actuator locks when you adjust the leading edge slats with the actuator connected (AMM 27-81-00/201).
(g)
Remove the fasteners that hold the electrical connector bracket to the slat actuator if the airplane is so equiped.
(h)
Disconnect the electrical connector (AMM 27-81-41/401).
WARNING:_______MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE SLAT IN ITS POSITION. IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THE SLAT IT WILL FALL AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(i)
Hold the slat in its position.
(j)
Remove the rod end bolt that connects the slat to the slat actuator.
(k)
Manually extend the slat to get access to the end seal bolts.
(l)
Remove all the washers under the bolt heads.
(m)
Measure the distance the seal extends past the slat end and record measurement.
(n)
Substract the first measurement recorded (clearance between slat to adjacent slat or clearance between slat to adjacent structure) from the recorded measurement of the seal/slat end overlap.
(o)
Divide the result of your substraction by the thickness of a washer to find the number of washers needed to make the seal touch the adjacent slat or adjacent structure.
(p)
Substract 0.07 to 0.15 thickness of washers from your division result.
(q)
Add the calculated number of washers under the bolthead.
NOTE: The minimun number of washers to be installed under the
____ bolthead is one washer of 0.050 inch thickness. The maximum number of washers to be installed under the bolthead is one washer of 0.050 inch thickness (installed first on the bolt) plus eight washers of
0.060 inch thickness.
(r)
Tighten the bolts to 30-40 inch pounds.
(s)
Compress the spring loaded seal.
(t)
Manually retract the slat to the same position as the other slats.
