3. __________________________FSIM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
A. GENERAL
(1)
FAULT STORAGE SOFTWARE IS DESIGNED TO STORE A MAXIMUM OF 64 FLAP/SLAT CYCLES THAT CONTAIN FAULT RECORDS, PLUS 64 GROUPS OF UP TO 255 CONSECUTIVE "EVENTLESS" FLAP/SLAT CYCLES, WITH NO FAULT.

WHEN EACH OF THE FOLLOWING ARE PUSHED AND RELEASED, AN ERROR MESSAGE SHOWS ON THE BITE DISPLAY. ALSO, ERROR MESSAGES CAN BE SHOWN WHEN THE MASTER DIM AND TEST SWITCH IS PUSHED. NOTE THAT THERE ARE NO MASTER FULL EXT ON THE 737-200 ADVANCE, -300, -400, -500:

NUISANCE OR VALID LE SLAT SENSOR FAULT REPORTS CAN BE SHOWN WHEN HYDRAULICS ARE TURNED OFF AND PANELS DROOP.

NUISANCE LE SENSOR FAULT REPORTS AND TE SWITCH FAULT REPORTS CAN OCCUR WHEN THE SYSTEM IS MOVED IN THE ALTERNATE MODE.
(6)
FSIM FAULT HISTORY DOES NOT CONTAIN NECESSARILY THE SAME FAULT REPORTS FOR ALL 737 MODELS.
(7)
A PROXIMITY SENSOR FAULT REPORT CAN BE CAUSED BY A MISSING OR MIS-RIGGED TARGET. DO A TARGET INSTALLATION/RIGGING CHECK.
(8)
A PROXIMITY SENSOR FAULT REPORT CAN BE CAUSED BY A PROBLEM WITH THE YELLOW WIRE OF THE PROXIMITY SENSOR.

IN FAULT REPORTS 108 THROUGH 110 THE CONNECTOR PINS OF THE INTERFACE THAT CAUSED THE FAULT ARE SHOWN IN THE SHOP DETAILS. IF FSEU REPLACEMENT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THEN YOU NEED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE INTERFACE.

TROUBLESHOOT THE PROXIMITY SENSOR WIRING WITH THE STEPS THAT FOLLOW:
(a)
REMOVE THE FSIM. (b)MAKE THE FOLLOWING THREE WIRING CONTINUITY/RESISTANCE CHECKS, AT THE FSIM CONNECTOR: 1) RED WIRE PIN TO BLUE WIRE PIN (EXPECTED RESULT = 378 OHMS NOMINAL FOR SENSORS ON LE FLAPS 1 THRU 4). 2) RED WIRE PIN TO STRUCTURE-GROUND (EXPECTED RESULT = 30 |3.5 OHMS FOR SENSORS ON LE FLAPS 1 THRU 4 OR 44 |2 OHMS FOR SENSORS ON SLATS 2 AND 5).
3) BLUE WIRE PIN TO STRUCTURE-GROUND (EXPECTED RESULT = 348 |3.5 OHMS FOR SENSORS ON LE FLAPS 1 THRU 4).
(c)
CORRELATE THE DATA FROM THE ABOVE MEASUREMENTS:
(1) MASTER FULL EXT
(2) LE FLAPS TRANSIT
(3) MASTER EXT
(3) CYCLE THE FLAPS TO CLEAR SENSOR AND SWITCH FAULT REPORTS. IT IS NECESSARY FOR THE SENSOR OR
THE SWITCH TO CHANGE STATE. EXTEND AND RETRACT THE FLAPS. STOP AT EACH DETENT TO SEE IF THE
FAULT REPORT GOES AWAY.
1) IF MEASUREMENT (1) AGREES WITH ITS EXPECTED RESULTS AND BOTH MEASUREMENTS (2) AND (3) ARE OPEN CIRCUITS, THEN THERE IS EITHER A SENSOR FAULT OR AN OPEN CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE SENSOR AND STRUCTURE-GROUND (SENSOR'S YELLOW WIRE). SINCE THE YELLOW WIRE IS PART OF THE SENSOR (PIGTAIL), REPLACE THE SENSOR.
2) IF MEASUREMENT (2) AGREES WITH ITS EXPECTED RESULTS AND BOTH MEASUREMENT (1) AND (3) ARE OPEN CIRCUITS, THEN THERE IS EITHER A SENSOR FAULT OR AN OPEN CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE SENSOR AND THE FSEU ON THE BLUE TERM WIRE. THE BLUE TERM WIRE IS SPLICED; IT IS NECESSARY TO CUT THE SPLICE TO ISOLATE BETWEEN THE WIRE AND THE SENSOR.
3) IF MEASUREMENT (3) AGREES WITH ITS EXPECTED RESULTS AND BOTH MEASUREMENTS (1) AND (2) ARE OPEN CIRCUITS, THEN THERE IS EITHER A SENSOR FAULT OR AN OPEN CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE SENSOR AND THE FSEU ON THE RED TERM WIRE. THE RED TERM WIRE IS SPLICED; IT IS NECESSARY TO CUT THE SPLICE TO ISOLATE BETWEEN THE WIRE AND THE SENSOR.
4) IF NONE OF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS ARE TRUE, THEN THERE IS EITHER A SENSOR FAULT OR A SHORT CIRCUIT.
