737-300/400/500MAINTENANCE MANUAL
S 862-050
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE INBOARD AND OUTBOARD FAN DUCT COWLS AND THE
_______ THRUST REVERSERS ARE CLOSED OR REMOVED IF YOU NEED TO EXTEND THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS. THERE IS NOT SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE FOR THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS TO EXTEND IF THE INBOARD AND OUTBOARD FAN DUCT COWLS AND THRUST REVERSERS ARE IN THE OPEN (MAINTENANCE) POSITION. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LEADING
_______ EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS. IF YOU MOTOR THE ENGINES IT CAN CAUSE EXTENSION OF THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS BECAUSE OF PRESSURIZATION OF HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS A OR B. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT. PUT A "DO NOT DRY MOTOR ENGINE WITH THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS OPEN" PLACARD ON THE ENGINE START SWITCH."
WARNING: MAKE SURE LEADING EDGE FLAPS, LEADING EDGE SLATS, AND TRAILING
_______ EDGE FLAPS ARE IN THE FULL (UP) RETRACTED POSITION AND THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT, HYDRAULIC SYSTEM B, AND THE STANDBY SYSTEMS ARE DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU MOTOR THE ENGINES. DO NOT MOTOR THE ENGINES WITH THE TRAILING EDGE FLAP EXTENDED. IF YOU DO, THE SLATS WILL BE ACTIVATED AND EXTENDED BY HYDRAULIC POWER ORIGINATED FROM THE (HYDRAULIC SYSTEM B) ENGINE DRIVEN PUMP AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE POSITION OF THE FLAPS AND SLATS AGREES WITH THE
_______ POSITION OF THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WHEN YOU PRESSURIZE THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM B, THE FLAPS AND SLATS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY TO THE POSITION OF THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Leading Edge Flaps and Slats Deactivation to operate the Trailing Edge Flaps in the alternate (fully electric) mode, and with no hydraulic power systems A, B, or Standby available). Do the steps that follow:
(a)
Put a "DO NOT DRY MOTOR ENGINE WITH THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS OPEN" placard on engine start switch to prevent engine dry motoring with the thrust reverser cowls open, and to prevent uncommanded slat extension caused by (EDP) Engine Driven Pump pressurization of hydraulic system B.
(b)
Make sure the leading edge flaps, leading edge slats, and trailing edge flaps are in the full (UP) retracted position.
(c)
Release the pressure from hydraulic systems A, B, and Standby (AMM 29-09-00/201).
