Hold the slat in its position.
(k)
Remove the rod end bolt that connects the slat to the slat actuator.
(l)
Manually extend the slat so the seal does not touch the adjacent slat or structure.
(m)
Measure the distance from the end of the slat to the marks on the spring-loaded seal (Fig. 505).

(n) Find the number of washers to remove or add below the seal bolt
head to get the correct clearance between the seal and the bolt
head.
NOTE: The distance between the mark on the seal and the end of____
the slat (when the seal is fully expanded, not touching
adjacent slat) is the same as the distance between the
seal and the bolthead washers (when the seal is
compressed between adjacent slats).
(o) Manually extend the slat to get access to the end seal bolts.
(p) Remove the bolts that hold the seal (s) in place.
(q) Add or remove the washers.
NOTE: The minimun number of washers to be installed under the____
bolthead is one washer of 0.050 inch thickness.
The maximum number of washers to be installed under the
bolthead is one washer of 0.050 inch thickness
(installed first on the bolt) plus eight washers of
0.060 inch thickness.
(r) Tighten the bolts to 30-40 pound-inches.
(s) Compress the spring-loaded seal.
(t) Manually retract the slat to the same position as the remaining
slats.
(u) Attach the slat actuator to the slat with the clamp up bushing,
bolt head and retainer.
NOTE: The clamp-up bushing, bolt head, and retainer must be____
on the same side.
(v) Tighten the nut to 540-600 pound-inches.
(w) Put the electrical connector bracket in its position.
(x) Install the fasteners that hold the bracket to the slat
actuator.
(y) Install the electrical connector.

Make sure the clearances between the slat proximity sensors and the slat auxiliary track targets are correct and adjust any out of adjustment clearance if necessary (AMM 27-88-11/401).

Do the flap and slat system tests (in primary and alternate modes) and the usual operation time test for flaps and slats given in this airplane maintenance manual.

Make sure you follow the safety warnings and cautions, and you complete the steps for the removal/installation of actuator locks, and the steps for applying/releasing hydraulic pressure before you cycle the slats in subsequent steps (AMM 27-81-00/201).
